Maxis Mini Reno Challenge: Rules
I wanted to challenge myself to renovate Maxis’ original builds, but only minor renovations for major impact—a mini reno! Here are the rules:
Base Game or Single Pack Only
Use only base game or base game plus pack containing world being renovated. For example, if renovating a house in Brindleton Bay, items from the base game and Cats and Dogs expansion pack are allowed.
Within 20% of Original Home Value
Stay within 20% of the budget or house value of the original build. I initially came up with this rule because I wanted starter homes to stay affordable!
Keep Some Original Character
This one is subject to some judgment! The new build should have some characteristics resembling the original build. For example, maybe a house stays the same color scheme but uses different paints, or the style of the house still matches the neighborhood (like, New Orleans style in Willow Creek), or a family house stays fit for a family. These are just some ideas and not all are necessary, but the old build should be somewhat recognizable in the new one.
Keep Same Number of Beds and Baths
For example, a 2 bed, 2 bath house should still be 2 bed, 2 bath in the end!
Debug Items Allowed
I’m going to try not to use too many debug items, but they’re so tempting to use for landscaping! So, I’ll allow it!
Free Stuff Pack Allowed
Again, I’m going to challenge myself still to use base game only, but if I need to dip into the free stuff, I’ll allow it!
I’ll be uploading my renovations to the gallery under ID: meetcutesims - let me know what you think and if you try out this challenge, too! Happy Simming!
