a friend of mine was just fired from her job (at the place where we both work) a week after she filed a gender discrimination suit against her boss (with no repercussions for her boss)

some things in her suit include that he called her pet names (e.g., sweetie) despite being told repeatedly to call her exclusively by her name

we’ve got a group of few folks at work that are coming up with resources and checking in on our friend, but there’s a lot of unspoken unaddressed anger, and not a lot of latitude for us to express how livid/ frustrated/ disillusioned we are (aside from filing retaliation suits on her behalf as “non-party third witnesses”, which we have done)

we also have our annual mini-pumpkin decorating contest coming up

I’ll be knitting my mini pumpkin a sweater with colorwork lollipops on it, and the title of my pumpkin will be “Don’t Call Me Sweetie”

the top three winners of the pumpkin contest will be announced via a work-wide email, and I really want folks (administration) to have to look at my pumpkin name and know we haven’t forgotten what’s happened to our colleague (and friend)

it feels silly and trivial and maybe a little foolish, but I’m trying to savor each stitch of this Sweater of Resistance. maybe everything’s going to shit but we know what you did. we hold you accountable. as much as we can, we protect us.
