Self-watering Midsummer Mini-garden Day 1
I wanted something living in my apartment and wanted to start my own little herb garden. What better day to do it on than Midsummer Day? I figured I’d post a sort of instruction manual on what I did in case somebody else wants to try it too ೭੧(❛▿❛✿)੭೨
What you’ll need:
plastic bottles
garden soil
yarn or string
sturdy pair of scissors
knife
seeds
1. Take the plastic bottles and cut them in half (or about 60/40 with the bottom part slightly bigger)
2. Make a hole in the caps with, for example, a sturdy pair of scissors. Be careful not to damage whatever surface you’re working on, maybe use a cutting board or something similar.
3. Cut a piece of whatever string or yarn you’re using (cotton will probably work best) and thread it through the hole. Make a little knot on one end to help keep the yarn in place.
4. Fill the bottom part with water, get the entire string wet
5. Fill the top part with garden soil and plant your seeds. After you plant them, get the garden soil wet. You only need to do this once; as the plant is growing, it will get the water it needs through the string and you only need to add water into the container below. Also label your plants so you don’t forget what you’re growing (like I would in about 5 seconds)
6. Admire your little DIY herb garden!
I’m really happy with how this turned out, and I’m really excited to see how this goes. o(〃^▽^〃)o I’ve never really grown anything before so, fingers crossed! I’ll keep you guys posted, wish me luck! (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤
