Choosing Consciousness
Choosing what to wear can be a conscious choice or an auto-pilot choice. Either you get up in the morning and “throw on whatever” or you can actively pick out what you plan to wear for the next 10-14 hours; thinking through your entire day, who you’ll meet, where you’ll go, how you’ll present yourself, and choosing to wear something that’ll make you feel good all day long.
When it’s a conscious choice, as opposed to an auto-pilot choice, it sets in motion, a routine, of other conscious choices. Once your brain is in ‘conscious choice mode’ you can make other conscious choices like what to have for breakfast and whether to drive or bike to work and whether to do that task that really matters or the one that is easy. The more we can get away from “auto-pilot choices” and make conscious choices, the better off we’ll be. The more we can actively construct our world around us, or at least how we react to it.
This is why I started a “fashion” blog. Not because I always do this, but because I like having the motivation to do this. I like the subtle nudge of, “you’ll have to put this outfit on your blog later” choose consciously. It gets me to make that first conscious choice of the day. To get me to put on an outfit that reminds me all day long, I have a conscious choice. A choice in... how I react to that comment, how I appear to others, how I come across on the phone, and how I perceive the world. Which actively makes me, more consciously me.
