&& ----- Her parents would call her shameful. Running away from her home, her family, her name. But Andromeda knew that wasn't the case. She wasn't trying to run away, not really. She was hoping to pursue a life that was better than what she'd been given.
From a young age, Andromeda was taught the respectable ways in which all good, pureblood witches should behave. She could set tea and speak eloquently and crush flies in a way that looked as delicate as setting down a china bowl. However, Andromeda was also taught lessons that she would later find hateful and cruel.
Don't get her wrong, she subscribed to these ideas, once upon a time. She thought she would be the sort who would marry well and be well taken care of. Starting school, however, she saw the sorts of people her sister fell in with. And when her other sister came to school, Andromeda took note. She wished things could be different. She wished she didn't have to choose. But they made her.
Andromeda wishes things weren't so tense with her sisters. Her parents, she could survive without them. But her sisters? What it would be like for Bella and Cissy to just-- accept her. But they wouldn't. And Andromeda made the decision to become estranged from them consciously and knowingly. It was a sacrifice of a kind.
Marrying Edward Tonks and leaving her family behind was possibly the biggest kindness that Andromeda afforded herself. No longer in the empty, cold halls of her family home, Andromeda was free to explore the wizarding world with a fresh perspective. She was able to see other witches and wizards and humans as their own people, independent of their blood status.
Not long after marrying Ted Tonks, Andromeda came to have a daughter, whom she named Nymphadora. Though it's a name her daughter did not seem to enjoy, Andromeda kept it a private tradition of the family she left behind.
