I WISH YOU WOULD WRITE A FIC ABOUT MINHO BUYING A PUPPY FOR JONGHYUN BUT THE PUPPY ENDS UP LIKING MINHO MORE
(im really not confident in my jongho but this prompt is too cute to ignore ;;; i actually had a lot of fun with it :) i hope you like it, lovely~)
It wasn't often that Minho would do something so... lavish? was that the word?.. for his boyfriend. True he had paid for dinners before and played games with and for him - the scary kind of games that scared his small boyfriend too much to play. But what he did wasn't nearly as much as Jonghyun did in return.
Jonghyun was a very doting person in general, but when it came to Minho he went far and beyond what the younger would ever expect. He always paid for dinners unless Minho beat him to it - which wasn't often no matter how hard he tried - he wrote damn ballads about Minho sometimes on the spot and other times he worked for hours and hours until the end result brought Minho to tears. He drove Minho around because he was the one with a car and he brought Minho's favourite snack every time he went grocery shopping.
To put it simply, Minho felt like he wasn't doing enough doting on Jonghyun. Which was why he was pressing hands and nose against the glass of a rescue shelter's pet shop, watching the puppies and kittens playing in their respective cages on the inside of the store. Jonghyun had been whining about wanting a puppy for the longest time, especially since he hadn't been about to bring his elderly dog Roo with him when he'd moved out of home. "I wanted to take her but she's too sick and elderly. I wouldn't be able to care for her properly..." He'd explained mournfully. So, Minho figured he would supply Jonghyun with a fantastic surprise. He'd secretly saved money for many months just to have enough to afford the animal and the essentials that came with it. He'd even begun hiding some puppy related items - such as toys - in the very back and bottom of his drawers in the bedroom. He only hoped Jonghyun hadn't gone looking through them for something he wanted to wear.
Glancing up at seeing movement, he realised he'd been noticed by one of the employees and smiled brightly, walking to enter the store.
-----------------------------------
The puppy was small and fluffy and was adamant that she wanted to lick every inch of Minho's face, even as he was trying to walk her home. Such a nuisance she was, he had to pick her up and cradle her in one arm to continue the walk, holding tight to her as she snuggled against him, nudging his face and ear, all the while carrying a bag with food and two dog bowls in his other hand. "You're so troublesome." He commented to the excitable puppy, who only barked an adorable high pitched yelp and then settled two paws on his shoulder and nestled her head against the side of his neck.
He couldn't be mad at her for another second.
Slipping to the apartment he rushed to the bathroom where he placed the puppy down and removed the harness once closing the door behind himself. "Now." He began, stopping to laugh as she leaped on him for more licks. "I'm gonna have to keep you in here until your new daddy comes home, I hope you don't mind." With a quick look at his watch he saw that he had half an hour to wait and sighed, sitting on the bathroom floor with the puppy nosing about the room, climbing on him and licking any bit of revealed skin. He hoped the puppy would respond like this to Jonghyun as well, it would feel unfair if the dog that was Jonghyun's preferred someone else. After spending twenty minutes with the puppy he set down some water and food for her and while she was distracted he left and shut the door behind him. He just needed to tidy things a little around the apartment and also strategically place come dog toys around in the hopes that Jonghyun would notice something was amiss. Minho wasn't sure if Jonghyun would get the hint because he could be a bit absent minded if he was distracted in some way, but some days he was scarily perceptive.
Only a few minutes before Jonghyun was due home the puppy began to howl, scratching at the bathroom door and Minho cursed his luck. He only needed her to be distracted for another few minutes. That was all. It wasn't that he wanted to leave her on her own, in fact it broke his heart to hear her cry like she was, but he wanted the surprise to go exactly how he wanted it and that meant asking too much of the bundle of fur. Grabbing a toy he quickly rushed to her, getting her attention and placing her in the shower bath with the round squeaky toy. She wasn't big enough to climb out just yet so he could count on her to stay away from the door at least until he was ready to bring her out.
Upon Jonghyun’s arrival home, Minho tried to act as nonchalant as possible, asking the same usual questions about how his day at work was and what they should do for dinner.
“I don’t mind what we eat.” Jonghyun muttered, practically throwing himself on the lounge.
A loud squeaking sound came from beneath him and Minho slapped a hand over his mouth to stifle a laugh as Jonghyun reached under himself to pull the giraffe shaped toy out. With a frown he stared at the toy, as if trying to analyse what it was and why it was there.
“Minho. What is this?” Jonghyun asked, slowly looking up at Minho who was still holding back laughter. “Is there something you’re not telling me?”
Unable to use words, knowing he’d just loose it, Minho grabbed Jonghyun’s hand and pulled him to stand in the entrance to the hallway. “Just, stand here and close your eyes.” He instructed and didn’t let go of Jongyhun’s hand until he shut his eyes.
Minho quickly stepped down the hallway, opening the bathroom door to the excited yelps of the puppy within. Picking her up, he brought her into the hallway and set her on the floor, facing Jonghyun. “Okay, hyung, open your eyes.” He said as he slid the puppy forwards.
As Jonghyun opened his eyes he gasped, dropping to his knees immediately as the puppy began running in a zigzag down the hall, furry paws slipping on the wooden floors. “Oh my god!” He cried, the puppy just about to reach him.
Until she happened to glance back at Minho and did a total u-turn, bumping into Jonghyun as she skidded and bolted back towards the other male. He didn’t know what expression he had on his face, but Jonghyun was laughing loudly at him, pointing and falling down on his ass as he did so. Minho knelt down to pick up the puppy, the canine happy to lick at his face. With a sheepish laugh he walked the puppy to Jonghyun, trying not to feel like a complete moron as he handed her over. “That didn’t go exactly as planned.” He admitted.
“Nah.” Jonghyun replied, rising on his toes to lightly kiss Minho. “Your face was funny enough to counteract the failure.”
Minho hid his face, groaning in embarrassment.
Laughing again, Jonghyun cupped the back of Minho’s neck with his free hand. “I’m kidding! Really!” He assured him. “But, you got a puppy? Why?”
“I didn’t just get a puppy.” Minho said. “I got you a puppy. She’s for you.” He clarified.
Jonghyun’s eyes widened tenfold. “Me?”
“Yeah, you, you idiot.” Minho stated, patting the puppy as it leaned out from Jonghyun’s embrace to reach him. “You said you wanted a puppy so I saved and got you one. She’s a Golden Retriever and I found her at the pet shop you always stop at, you know the one that’s run by the shelter?”
There were tears in his eyes as Jonghyun stared at Minho in awe. “You did this for me?”
Minho saw the utter disbelief as Jonghyun spoke and he nodded, suddenly feeling extremely shy as he looked down at his feet. “Of course I did.”
Jonghyun was suddenly against him, hugging him tightly, the puppy eagerly licking at the side of Minho’s face now that she was close enough. “Thank you, Minho.” He whispered. “You shouldn’t have, but thank you.”
“How could I otherwise?” Minho asked, shrugged as he wrapped his arms around Jonghyun’s waist, the smaller man lifting a little in response. The puppy yelped, panting in excitement, licking into Minho’s hair. “Ahh jeez, can you just stop paying attention to me and focus on your actual owner?” He demanded, unable to help laughing as the puppy ignored his words entirely.
“Nah, she’s not mine.” Jonghyun told Minho, pulling back enough to kiss Minho once and then again. “She’s ours.”
