She let her long legs carry her far as they could. Anywhere to get farther from them. How could she have been so foolish? Every time she let her guard down, she was met with crisis.
But then again, how could this always happen to her? She was only at her friend’s memorial. But she took off her earmuffs-- letting them see that she was different. She was foolish-- so, so foolish. And now she was going to pay for all her misdeeds.
“Stop!” Their voice rung in her ears. They’re closer than she thought-- or rather, hoped. I’m going to get caught, the thought terrified her when she realized what it meant.
But the one advantage she had was that she knew where the roads go and where the narrow alleys lead, she could walk through them even with her eyes closed. They don’t teach police about those steps behind that building-- or that one house that looks like it’s locked but really it’s just open and vacant. It was her secret.
She was losing her stamina, though. She needed to act quick.
Sharply turning to another tight alleyway, then to another, and another, she began to lose them at last. It was easier than she expected, but it seemed too easy. She already learnt her lesson earlier of what happens when one isn’t careful enough.
She finally slowed down by a loud bar that droned out her heavy pants. She heard strangers laugh and toast their drinks, probably having the night of their life, but there was no time to waste for her. Unlike them, resting was a luxury.
She raised her pace at once and started to run again-- but then suddenly a young woman had gotten in her way. For a small moment, Raven stood there like a deer in headlights-- completely dazed-- but unwilling to let her get in the way of her escape, Raven pushed the brunette aside, gently enough to not injure her and rough enough to toss her aside, and continued running.
