HAPPY BIRTHDAY, YOU OLD WOMAN
So I RARELY post anything original on here, but this is an exception.
My best friend Court’s birthday is today! Go wish her happy birthday if you've got the time because she needs to know how awesome she is! She's minorpixelation!
This girl means the whole world to me. Now, I’m a firm believer in the fact that one simple random act of kindness can change your entire life, and that’s exactly what she did. In the 8th grade, I thought I could get through it by being invisible. This way, no one would ever need me, and I wouldn’t need to depend on anyone else. I’ve come to realize that that’s one of the worst ways to go about life. There was this day in eighth grade French class when Court asked me if I wanted to sit with her and her friends, and my whole “lone wolf” mentality totally switched off. All she did was ask me if I wanted to chill with them, and it was this huge, dramatic shift in my happiness. That one seemingly simple gesture gave me the confidence to accept myself for who I am, make friends, and be more comfortable in social situations. I’ve become so unbelievably comfortable in my own skin thanks to her, and I couldn’t ask for a better friend. We’ve been best friends for about six years now, but it doesn’t seem like enough. She taught me to see that I was no longer in a world by myself, and it’s the smallest yet most meaningful act I could’ve ever asked for. Looking back on it, it was a gift.
She’s always there for me, no matter how awkward or difficult the situation, and I couldn’t be any more grateful. She’s stuck with me and been so unbelievably patient with me that sometimes I don’t know how she does it. Hell, she even stays up with me on Skype til midnight (or longer) to motivate me to finish my papers that are due in a few hours. That’s some dedication, man. She’s considerate, funny, thoughtful, quirky, and so many other great things that I just don’t have the room to list.
Court is like a sister to me, and in that respect, I think that was a wish I had that was actually granted. We’ve made it through our teens together- which is supposedly a pretty rough patch- so let’s see if we can make it through our twenties. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.
