10 11 years, 10 11?? top stars: pt 5

Yeah, I messed up!! I joked that it was gonna be my 11th anniversary before I finished this, and that's exactly what happened!! (ICYMI, I was celebrating my blog’s 10th birthday by streaming 10 of my favorite top stars)

In all fairness, the whole shit went down 2 weeks after my last installment, and I needed a break. And now y'all get a bonus top star, why not.

ANYWAY,

Profile #5: Minoru Kou

A few things I love about PRINCE NORU:

Noru was actually my VERY VERY FIRST zuka crush. Around 2004, when Takawiki didn't even exist, and I discovered the existence of Takarazuka after watching the Rose of Versailles anime for the first time and following some BeruBara cosplayers on LiveJournal, Noru was who came up on google images when you searched "Takarazuka Rose of Versailles." Based on one (likely low-res) image alone, I wrote "I can already feel Minoru Kou putting hooks in my soul" in my diary.

Most of us roll our eyes at ZukaBara in 2024, but BeruBara was my gateway into Takarazuka, and I am a huge fan of the original work. Noru is... ᵐʸ ᶠᵃᵛᵒʳᶦᵗᵉ ᵒˢᶜᵃʳ (please don't tell Komu).

There is kind of a stoic dependability about her, but she absolutely still has that Hoshigumi fire. It's a great combo.

She literally rode into her taidan on a white horse.

Top Noru memories:

I've only had the privilege of seeing Noru live once: on my very first trip to Japan, as the guest soloist for two total scenes in DREAM, A DREAM. But... the other guest the same show was another fave, Kouju Tatsuki (my one true Oscar/Andre!!), and after their respective solos, they were SOOOOoOoOoOOoOOOOOooo cute in their lil Diga Diga Doo duet I cried.

The time she friended me on Facebook. We are still friends.

I’m not very well to be writing a release post but I think I have delayed this release enough considering the lack of quality in the translation.

This has been requested more than once, and I promised I’d do it if I could get ahold of the closed captions. Then, magically, I did. However, some parts of it were much beyond my level of Japanese. Please, beware that there will be more mistakes than usual because of that. I think I managed to transmit the story, at least. Not that it’s too complicated.

The subs are timed to the footage of the DVD day (as in, this isn’t the final performance) but the video I had was a broadcast from Sky Stage, so if you have the DVD, you’ll need to push back or forward the timing nonetheless.

Also notice this is for the 2001 version, led by Minoru Kou (it was also her taidan show). There are two other versions, plus the shinko, and the subs of course won’t work for them (though I imagine they wouldn’t have changed much, so you could perhaps use it as a script).

Oh yeah, if anyone watched Outen no Mon, you’ll notice it’s the same story as the one for Chinatsu’s character there. Kouju Tatsuki plays Odachin’s, while Aran Kei plays Reika Haru’s (this came first, so it is really the opposite).
