Starting off with a French renaissance drinking song, out of the Premier Livre de Danceries (1530). The ‘tourdion’ was a stiff couple dance, and a description of it can be found in Thoinot Arbeau’s Orchésographie (1589). The dance however disappeared around the end of the XVIth century, and only the drinking song remained.
