In your don’t look outside fantasy AU, what hobby replaces Lyle’s photography? Or does photography still exist in this world?
For Lyle specifically, it's a modified version of the 9th level Phantom Rogue ability: Tokens of the Departed.
His version allows him to bind something's soul to a trinket while they're still alive, trapping them in a suspended state (like his polaroids in-game). Only difference, he can actually release the souls unharmed later, though any damage their body took during the time they were trapped stays.
As for just general photography, illusionists and other magic users can take "pictures" and display them on mirrors, crystal balls, etc!

you made me do scientific research into what kind of eyes tarantulas have, and the closest arrangement (i think) would be Lycosidae 2?
He's based off of a cobalt blue tarantula so someone else fact check me on that LMAO
