So maybe this has already been pointed out before, but I just learned about this today.

I was watching this video by Weird History on the Mirny (Or Mir for short) Mine in Russia. The mine is a huge diamond mine and when I heard that, I remembered something....

In Steven Universe, the earth looks a bit different than how it does in real life, with one of the significant features being a large chunk taken out of Russia.

I immediately googled a screenshot of the map of Steven’s earth and then searched where the Mirny Mine is located.

Seems like a pretty close match to me. Maybe the Diamonds came from here, or White Diamond took this chunk of earth to make the other Diamonds. The video did mention that a large yellow diamond was mined there...

Or maybe I’m just overthinking things.

The Mir Mine located in Russia is one of the deepest mines in the world. The official depth is 1,722 feet deep. If the 2nd tallest building in the United States (1,729 feet tall) was placed in the mine, the tip would only stick out 7 feet past ground level.

Mir Mine is a former open pit diamond mine, now inactive, located in Mirny, Eastern Siberia, Russia. The mine is 525 meters (1,722 ft) deep and has a diameter of 1,200 m (3,900 ft), and is the second largest excavated hole in the world, after Bingham Canyon Mine. The airspace above the mine is closed for helicopters because of incidents in which they were sucked in by the downward air flow. (via)
