The 18th-century miracle-working “Reigning” icon of the Mother of God appeared in the village of Kolomenskoye near Moscow on March 2/15 1917, the day of the abdication of Emperor Nicholas II. It was found at the Church of the Ascension after a peasant woman saw a dream in which a mysterious voice told her that it "must be taken and made red and people should pray before it." icon.lt/list/reigning.htm The icon was kept in storage by the godless Soviet regime for 7 decades. Its home is now the Kazan Church, Kolomenskoe.
