To add to that post about Freed- you can also take into account that Freed and Bickslow (as well as Evergreen) were also on Tenrou Island when they first fought Acnologia, where even Laxus couldn't stand up to him. Freed has plenty of reasons not to put Laxus onto a pedestal here, and I'm certain he remembers the first time they faced that dragon. Bickslow may have a more positive view, but oh no, not Freed.
Hmm yes!! And Freed isn’t even a naturally pessimistic man either. He’s just being realistic and the fact that Laxus is there fighting too doesn’t change his attitude or common sense or whatever.
Such little things and appearances but at least they keep supporting canon facts and charcterization and although I have lots of bitterness, esp for the Freed/the Raijinshuu, I am glad that Mashima keeps his character up like this.
