Y/N walked briskly down the hallway, careful to keep her arms closely next to her so she wouldnt bump into anyone. Her gaze drifted from the nameplates of each door.
She should know by now which room was his, but hospitals were confusing. If she didn't know better she would have been convinced that they shifted after each visit.
What a ridiculous thought.
Mentally shaking her head to focus her thoughts she zoned in one the right room. Approaching it she knocked quickly. She frowned as she received no answer, slowly she knocked again. Receiving no answer again she slowly opened the door "Mirio, its Y/N"
Making her way inside she found the room to be completely empty. The bed sheets were disheveled. Maybe he had to get test done?
Well I might as well wait for him she thought, approaching the seat nearest to his bed she settled in. Letting her mind wander.
It was surreal to know that one of her closest friends, a man she had basically grown up with, was now quirkless.
Even without a quirk he still had a smile. But that was just Mirio. He was such a ray of sunshine, he brightened everyone's day. He tried to see the good in everyone.
And that's one of the reasons why I love him. Though that wasn't something she was prepared to let anyone know, ecspecially not him.
She couldn't. She wasn't right for him. No matter how much she wanted to be she knew he deserved better. Not someone like her.
His whole being shined brightly. Where as her quirk literally made her disappear. Sure it made her a top choice for stealth missions, but often she got overlooked. It wasn't because of her quirk either but her size.
Mirio and the others could deny it as much as they wanted. But she knew. No one wanted a "fat" superhero unless they could use that to their benefit. She wasn't like fat gum, she couldn't absorb shocks or use it as a power source. She was just bigger.
She was in good shape still. She ate well and exercised but she couldn't lose weight after a certain point. She could still do well on tasks but most people didn't give her the chance.
That's why she didn't think she was a good fit for Mirio he deserved someone that could shine with him. As much as it broke her heart she knew that all she could do was support him.
She was startled from her thoughts as the door to the room opened. On reflex she activated her quirk, making her whole body disappear and blend into the chair.
Y/N watched as Mirio came into the room. As he closed the door behind him, she was going to deactivate her quirk and greet him but then she noticed, something was wrong.
Mirio looked sad. More then sad, he looked devastated, his eyes were red and it was obvious he had been crying. His whole body just showed how he was feeling.
She watched, silently, as he made his way to the bed. Hunched over, his head in his hands he started crying.
It hurt her to see him this way, what could she do for him?
"What am I going to do? W-why did this happen?"
She was startled by his question, but wasn't sure if she should answer. Should she sneak out and come back later?
"Y/N?"
She stiffened at the call of her name. Looking up she saw him looking straight at her. Of course he would know she was here, he always knew where she was.
Deactivating her quirk she got up from the chair and started to approach him.
"What happened Mirio?"
Instead of answering right away, as soon as she was close enough he circled his arms around her waist and pulled her close, hugging her to him as he buried his face into her stomach.
Y/N felt her face heat up at the action, but quickly focused herself, she couldn't react like this, not when he was so distressed.
Running her fingers through his hair she waited for him to answer. It took him a few moments before he answered, voice muffled as he held his position.
"I-its Sir. They couldn't save him."
Y/N was surprised. She knew his wounds were bad but still she hoped a miracle would happen and he would be healed. She hugged Mirio as tightly as she could "I'm so sorry. Is there anything I can do for you?"
Mirio shook his head but tightened his hold on her " What am I going to do now? I have no quirk, I couldn't even save Sir. I can't be a hero"
Y/N sighed, she wasn't use to seeing Mirio like this, hesitantly she pulled back. Looking at Mirio, he didn't meet her gaze and instead looked firmly at the ground.
Gently she made him look up to her. "Mirio. Quirkless or not. You're still you. You were able to save that little girl and fight such a strong villain even without your quirk. Remember what Sir always told you?"
He was silent for a moment before nodding slowly "..always smile"
Y/N nodded, smiling herself as she gently brushed his hair back. "Exactly. You'll get through this and the best way is with a smile. You'll find a way to be a hero. I know you will"
Mirio nodded, a small smile coming to his lips. "Of course, thank you Y/N"
Before Y/N could respond Mirio stood and pulled her into a tight hug. She would find a way to help him, but until then she'd do all she could for him in anyway possible.
