Mir Mine, otherwise known as Mirny Mine, is the second larger man-made excavated holes in the world & a former open-pit diamond mine. The Mir mine was discovered on 13th June 1955 and churned out over $13 billion worth of diamonds before mysteriously closing in 2004. The mine is over 525 meters deep & has a diameter of 1,200 meters. In the 1960s the mine was producing 10,000,000 carats (2,000-kilograms) of diamond every year.
