Roman copy of the s. II AD Greek bronze from 450-440 B.C. work of Myron of Eleutheras.
We see the athlete with his body in tension, muscles, veins, ribs…maximum physical concentration, in the moment immediately before throwing the discus. He contrasts with a face that the author shows calm, serene, without emotion, without effort. The work is one of the great sculptures. It represents the ideal of classical Greek beauty: symmetry, proportion and balance.
You can admire it in the National Roman Museum, Italy.
