The Jade Goyl from the first book of my all-time favourite series — ‘The Petrified Flesh’ by Cornelia Funke
Close-ups and spoilers under the break:
I’m once again thinking about that the Inkworld and the Mirrorworld is the same world and are therefore pacing across my room while muttering about moons
For context the mirrorworld have 2 moons and the inkworld seems to only have one (if the color of revenge explains that I haven’t read that one yet SHAME ON ME) PLEASE TELL ME THERE IS AN EXPLANATION
Anyway I’ve always felt it’s the same world in my heart (my first reaction to reading reckless was that it felt like returning home to the inkworld) but I can’t wrap my brain around the amount of moons.
hd remasters of reckless memes i did in 2023 first one based on this post, of course
Neon Reflections – Cyberpunk Chrome City | Futuristische Spiegelwelt
Ein futuristischer Stadtschauplatz bei Nacht – a futuristic cityscape at night. Gebäude aus geschmolzenem Chrom – buildings made of molten chrome. Das Straßenpflaster reflektiert wie ein endloser Spiegel – streets reflecting like an endless mirror. Neonlichter werfen schillernde Farben auf die makellosen Oberflächen – neon lights cast shimmering colors on flawless surfaces. Schwebende Fahrzeuge mit metallischem Glanz gleiten lautlos durch die Straßen – hovering vehicles with a metallic sheen glide through the streets. Inmitten dieser Szene steht eine geheimnisvolle Figur – in the midst of this scene stands a mysterious figure. Ihr Ganzkörperanzug aus flüssigem Chrom – their full-body suit made of liquid chrome. Ihr Gesicht verborgen hinter einer reflektierenden Maske – their face hidden behind a reflective mask. Sie ist eine wandelnde Reflexion der Stadt um sie herum – a walking reflection of the city around them.

I heard about Nashpaints about a week ago, and then I yesterday I received an email from Stranded Records (Oakland), highly recommending "Everyone Good Is Called Molly". It helped that the email ended with the following paragraph:
Charming and enigmatic, Everyone Good Is Called Molly will resonate with fans of Felt, The Clientele, and The Durutti Column, as well as anyone captivated by Cindy Lee’s Diamond Jubilee.
So, here I am listening, writing this and bumping it up to the front of the Tumblr queue. I'm buying it from Stranded. I hope for your sake there's another copy available - it really is that good.
Nashpaints is the project of Dublin, Ireland based musician Finn Carraher McDonald. This is released by MirrorWorld and while it is sold out on Bandcamp, it is clearly available via distribution.
Nerron is the only character in this series that deals with trauma in the correct way.
He fantasizes about murdering people.
someone reblogged that inkheart post I made a while back just when I was thinking about how truly baffled I am by Funkes ability to write incredibly well-developed, nuanced, interesting queer characters and complex queer relationships - but only as subtext. only if the narrative can sustain the thinnest veneer of plausible deniability. when she leaves that zone, it is like queerness is a strange and foreign concept that she approaches with a caution that borders on averseness.
there are truly amazing queer narratives in both the inkworld and mirrorworld series, but as soon as Funke tries to actually write queer text, she just fails spectacularly, she is such a skilled writer, but all her textual queer rep is incredibly clumsy and awkward. Conni, what is the problem. Please. I know you can do it, I have seen you do it, and yet!
