On Motivation: Dealing with bad clinic days and mishap
After some time in clinical dentistry, it’s not always going to be sunshine and rainbows. Your plans will not work all the time. A patient will abruptly cancel appointment, you accidentally broke your master cast, your instructor won’t be around without prior notice, you run out of budget for the materials to be used in the next procedure, your case got rejected and a lot more issues which will probably take a toll in you.
You will feel disappointment, frustration and hatred all a t once. The disappointment and frustration towards your clinical skills and competence, not to mention some unwelcome circumstances that will come your way and the pressure to be able to finish your requirements on time. You will then start comparing your progress with your classmates and hate them for being better and leading in everything. You prolly know that this is not good but you can’t help feeling this way. You’ll hate everyone and feel depressed in the process. Suddenly, you don’t want to do clinic duties anymore. But hey, don’t go in that path. Don’t let the dark monster win. You have to fight back! Don’t let it cease the fire within you.
Always find ways to feed the hunger to keep going and fighting. There’s more to remaking your plans to be able to make it happen. In every cancelled plan you learn something and you’re not the same anymore. The next time around, you know how to maximize your time when your instructor is around and value time even more, you appreciate punctual patient, you discover techniques to troubleshot minute problem that has great impact, you’d be extra careful in handling casts and you budget your materials so it won’t be wasted and can still be use in the following appointment. You see, you learn a little everyday and every step of the way. Just go keep reaching that goal no matter the situation.
You can grieve all you want for a moment, but always remember to spring back. Spring back and never look back. Reignite that burning passion within you, refresh your mind, reassemble your plan, always think of a brighter reason why such delays happen and lastly, encourage your classmates – uplift one another because you’re not alone in this journey. It’s more fun to grow together than interpolate with one another.
Don’t get discourage with a snail pace improvement. Small effort when added can make a big difference. Your plans may not work but always remember that He sees your effort and that His plan is always greater than yours. All you got to do is trust His work, word and promise. Surrender everything to Him for He will do the rest. So tell yourself to stop worrying and start praying, then do what you must in between.
“KEEP ON PUSHING FORWARD BECAUSE IT WILL FEEL SO GOOD WHEN YOU FINISH.”
One of the perks in taking up dentistry, you get to save money from expensive dental services. Of course, everyone wants to save money, and that includes me. Knowing that my teeth particularly needs some dental care, I made an appointment with one of my super friends Otay. Since both our patients couldn't make it that afternoon, I asked her instead to do some oral prophylaxis and tooth restoration procedure on my oral cavity. I volunteered to be her patient, to be exact, in which she gladly agreed.
I had two Class II caries (tooth #26 & #46), with the other tooth (#46) that contained under-filled temporary restoration.
Now given the experienced, of being the one who needs treatment and being the one who needs to be treated, I'am more motivated to do well. Not only in my clinical requirements, but most especially during my lectures. This is for me to be able to give my patients the best diagnosis and treatment plan possible. I know this won't be easy and would probably take a long time for me to develop this skill, but there's nothing excellent in this world that would just pop up in seconds. Thus, I'm willing to work and to wait.♥
Clinical Requirements Update: On-going complete denture (final impression), two class iii restorations, two scaling and polishing procedure and presented my RPD to Dr. Alba, unfortunately, he told me to find another one since it isn't an ideal case.
That's about it, loves. See you on my next post! Stay beautiful and be safe.*winks*
