Everyday Sexism
So I’m reading a book called Everyday Sexism by Laura Bates, it’s a collection of stories from women across the country about everyday misogyny they’ve experienced and then Bates’ own comments on the stories. Reading some of the stories made me incredibly sad and angry at the way in which SOME men tread women and how these women feel silenced. I expressed this anger to my boyfriend who then proceeded to comment: “oh god this book is brainwashing you already, I’m not going to get any sex for months am I?” CAN ANYONE ELSE NOT SEE THE PAINFUL IRONY IN THIS I’M SO ANGRY RIGHT NOW WHY ARE FEMINISTS PORTRAYED AS ANGRY MISANDRISTS ?!?!
Tumblr: Let's break gender stereotypes! *Bunch of guys start watching MLP* Tumblr: EWW GET OUT OF GIRL'S SPACES YOU LOSER NECKBEARDS THAT STUFF WASN'T CREATED FOR YOU!
Because I'm still seeing posts about this. Let me try to explain the misandrist thing in any way possible. Feminism is the field of study of the systemic oppression of a group based on their appearance (aka gender or identity), focused mainly on the abuses of white men (and or men as a group aka the patriarchy). Wonderful! In which misandry doesn't exist, because there is no systemic oppression of (white) men based on... their appearance.. Hope this was helpful! xox
