While the first generation of Shad's Knights were dubbed as such due to the fact that they were Blessed and Imbued with his Intent and Soul, very few after them claimed the title for the same reason. Many of Shad's first Knights were not undead like we see shown in Missing Pages nor were they beasts unto their own desires any more than the average man. These first Knights were mostly Mortal, a few were not even Knights outside of title, in fact Shad's Priests and Speakers were also granted these titles and Blessings before his Imprisonment. Nevertheless, once the Destroyer of Realm Barriers was locked outside of his own Divinity as his own Sanity he needed a source of power for his new knights. And the Void is incredibly plentiful in power.
