📔 Journal Entry – “The Prank”
Location: Granite Falls, Tent-side under a bug net Date: Apparently Mischief Season
Okay. So today… someone thought it would be hilarious to put fake bugs in my hiking boots.
Not “oh how silly” kind of fake. The very realistic, scream-out-loud, throw-your-coffee kind. Ivy would have sensed the prank coming. I, apparently, did not.
At first, I was furious. Like "curse-you-and-your-descendants" furious.
I don't even know who did it—some teen at the campground, probably—but I stomped around like a thundercloud for twenty full minutes. The chickens back home would've hidden. Maple definitely would've climbed into my lap to calm me down.
But then…
Something weird happened.
I caught myself smiling. Just a little.
There was something… harmless about it. Silly, even. It didn’t feel like an attack—it felt like a nudge. Like the forest—or something in it—was playing with me.
✨ And here’s the strange part:
When I sat down to calm myself, the pendant warmed again. Just a flicker. And I swear I heard laughter—not mean, but musical—somewhere out in the woods.
Maybe the prank wasn’t just a prank.
Maybe it was a test. Or an invitation.
Gran always told me that mischief was a dangerous thing—something to avoid unless you knew what you were doing. But she also said there’s a kind of magic that only works if you laugh while casting it.
What if part of me already knows how?
Decision of the Day:
I don’t hate mischief. I don’t love it yet, either. But I’m listening. I’m watching. And maybe, just maybe, I’m ready to play along.
