I finally posted a fic after like.....over a year of hiatus?? Sending out love and thanks to @yafiction for being an awesome beta!!
Pairing: Iwaizumi Hajime/Oikawa Tooru
Rating: General
Words: 22,557
Summary: As if on cue, the doors to the gymnasium opened with a loud sound and Kindaichi and Kunimi made their way in. Kindaichi automatically called out to them and Hajime was suddenly brought back from his momentary trance – just what was he doing, exactly?
The earth still spun on its axis. Time ticked away in its own conceptual manner. The sun would rise tomorrow, just as it would set today. And Hajime, of all people, had just asked Oikawa Tooru – Seijou’s Prince – to be his boyfriend for the week.

i've been wondering, when someone talks about iwaoi they always talks about iwaizumi being supportive etc but what about oikawa? like apart for when he comforted iwaizumi in his own way after they lost the game, what would he do for him? like iwaizumi supports him, takes care of him and stuff. oikawa does to i believe but i've never seen it shown? idk
I feel like, in both ways, we as a fandom have kind of defined their “support” ourselves. Technically speaking, we really don’t know much about Oikawa or Iwaizumi, let alone Seijou itself because they’re not the main characters and only have so much air time. We tend to fill in gaps ourselves is basically what I’m trying to say?? A lot of this is subjective!
Tbh now that I’m thinking about your question, I think you’re right in the sense that we’ve never “seen” it shown besides that scene where he pats Iwaizumi on the back. However, I stress again that we only have limited knowledge about Seijou based on their much less screen time compared to Karasuno.
My personal opinion is that Oikawa’s trust in Iwaizumi is his support towards him - the kind that is unwavering and incessant, fostered through years of being together. Oikawa may doubt himself, but he’s never once doubted Iwaizumi. He gave his last toss to him and that aggressive pat on the back just told Iwaizumi that he has no regrets despite the outcomes. Whenever Oikawa was tied up, he tossed to Iwaizumi, the one person he knew would stand by him no matter what.
Idk about you, but being trusted to that extent must make you feel kinda special don’t you think? Supportive in the sense that Iwaizumi will always know that Oikawa trusts him, whether it’s making decisions or pulling through on something, there is an infinite amount of faith in him. And who knows, maybe that in itself is a driving force for Iwaizumi to work harder for his friend that works so hard himself.
I’m re-watching ouran atm and I’m at the episode where Kasanoda - the guy who’s the son of the mafia leader with a very scary looking face - comes to the host club to ask for their help to make him less scary. And then he ends up falling for Haruhi, right?
I’m like.....convinced.......that this is kyouhaba right here.........Kasanoda is Kyoutani - he just wants to make friends and play volleyball but he’s got such a scary looking face and an upbringing that was supposed to make him into a gangster that he doesn’t have the social skills anymore. And then there’s Yahaba who’s Haruhi in this situation bc he’s just trying to be nice and be friendly like a normal person (unlike the host club).
Idk I’m also thinking Oikawa as Tamaki, coming up with crazy plans. Matsukawa and Hanamaki are definitely the Hitachiin twins dressing up Kyoutani and getting carried away. Iwa has to be Mori bc Kasanoda came to him for help in the first place bc he really respects him. Idk how this sounds but I feel like it would be hilarious
I’m not sure what you want me to do with this idea but just so you know I’m all for it 100% that would be a night to remember:
To celebrate both teams being able to go to nationals they do this karaoke night
Kuroo spends a lot of time with his grandparents so he knows all the old classic songs?? That no one else listens to?? And Kuroo insists on singing all these old songs bc he says they’re his favourites?? Bokuto is a good guy he always cheers for Kuroo extra loud
Bokuto is a really great dancer and always ends up dancing more than singing (not that anyone would complain since he’s quite a sight to see)
Yamamato is an emotional singer that always chooses songs about unrequited love (he sometimes walks away with tears in his eyes)
Kenma’s not much for singing but sometimes he’ll amuse Kuroo and Yaku and do a duet with one or the other
Yaku is terrible at singing but he loves it sO MUCH no one can stop him he doesn’t need the mic in his hand to be singing he will sing every song that is sung without fail
Lev has a strange voice that can hit some crazy notes it’s kinda surreal to watch
Sarukui and Komi love to do duets together and are quite amazing at it!!
Washio avoids singing bc he’s embarrassed that he can’t match tunes at all…..though sometimes he’s motivated to try after having to endure listening to Yaku
Konoha is a decent singer and an even better screaming vocalist
Inuoka only knows anime soundtracks and shamelessly sings them all
Sometimes Shibayama joins in with Inuoka bc it looks too fun
Onaga, Kai, and Fukunaga have a competition by choosing songs that have especially long enduring notes and sing them together to see who lasts longer and who runs out of breath
One time Yukie burped while singing a song and Bokuto has never let that one go so she usually has to be persuaded a lot to sing
Kaori on the other hand loves to sing and has a lovely voice that everyone adores
As does Akaashi - his voice is angelic and leaves everyone speechless
Kaori and Akaashi usually do what Bokuto calls “The Grand Finale” where the two sing a duet together to end the evening!!
Ravenclaw.......he’s just a big nerd........I can’t imagine him in Slytherin at all like yeah he’s provocative but that’s the extent of it??? Those in Ravenclaw are intelligent and witty and canonically Kuroo is in a college prep class and he uses science-related insults like......this kid belongs in there honestly it’s where he’s meant to be
honestly Iwa would say the cheesiest romantic lines ever with a straight face like he’d say something like “if you were a song I’d play you on repeat” and you know and I know and he knows for a fact that Oikawa, no matter how confident he comes off as, has a serious case of the doki dokis every time
“Tooru, what are you going to name your new kitten?”
Tooru turned the kitten in his lap to face him, thinking with a face all too serious. He held the paws for examination and peered closer to the eyes, just to be sure, naturally, and turned to his mother with a sudden smile.
“I want to name him......Iwa-chan! I want to name him Iwa-chan!!” Tooru was starry eyed, looking at his mother with a kind of conviction only 4 year olds have; full of determination, sights set on galaxies far away. He cradled the kitten in his arms, sitting on the floor looking up at her, and suddenly his mother realized just how small he was - how much of the world he didn’t know, how many names he’d yet to learn, how many people that will walk in and out of his life in years to come.
Perhaps, this time, it was alright to let him use a name that suits his voice so well for a thing he’s come to love. This time only, of course. He’ll grow out of that name, his mother had thought. He’ll grow out of that comfortable fondness of Iwa-chan, the boy, and maybe even the kitten too, once he was older.

“Tooru, are you going to name that cute teddy bear you got?”
His mother’s smile was the same - it never wavered in fondness and actually flicked at the corners of her mouth in such a playful way that anyone felt entranced by that single moment of watching her smile. Her touch was warm as she fixed her son’s hair. Tooru stood obediently, enjoying her fingers run through his hair as he hugged his new teddy bear close to his chest. It was a light brown bear, fluffy as ever, with a too-big light blue bow wrapped around it’s neck and dark olive green eyes. He smiled as wide as he could when she released him, looking up at her with those bright eyes only 7 year olds could have.
“His name is Iwa-chan, of course!! Look, he looks like him too!” Tooru held up the bear in front of his face, letting his mother take a good look while giggling behind the bear.
What a strange fondness indeed, his mother thought.
“Iwa-chan, the bear, can sleep with me when the real Iwa-chan can’t!” Tooru said, and then dropping to a loud whisper, “but don’t tell Iwa-chan! He’ll make fun of me for missing him!!”
His mother smiled, pinching Tooru’s nose before he ran away.
iii.
“What’s this, Tooru? A cactus?”
“Yeah, we’re growing mini cacti at school for the plants unit. They said they’ve grown enough for us to take them home now.” Tooru managed to say everything quick before getting up for a third helping. He was a growing boy, growing faster than any of the others in his class and much faster than his mother anticipated.
She picked up the tiny cactus and rotated it in her hands absently, half watching it and half admiring the way Tooru seems to be looking more and more handsome as the years go by. This 13 year old Tooru was taller and craftier, but his smiles were just the same as ever. Scribbles of black on the orange pot catch her attention, and she can’t help but give a smile as she traced the letters of such a familiar name.
“Hajime-kun will really kill you if he finds out that you named your cactus after him,” she said, looking at Tooru ever so teasingly. He laughed in return, a mouth full of rice still, and his mother could only imagine the kind of joy Tooru gets when he hears that name.
“He already found out and tried to smash my cactus!” Tooru said through laughs, “I don’t care if he doesn’t admit it, he definitely likes it.”

Sometimes it’s the fact that people can walk however they please that is the most dangerous thing about them. They can walk into somewhere, but they very well could walk out, too. They can walk around, of course, but there are times where they simply turn their back as well.
This was hard for Tooru to understand, hard for his mother to explain. Girlfriends, boyfriends, friends, strangers, rivals, teammates, classmates, soulmates - some walk with you, some walk ahead of you, some behind, some may never cross your path.
“But it’s painful,” Tooru said. His mother nodded. He keeps growing, she thought, bigger, taller, somehow grander and brighter than she’d ever seen him and still he keeps going. He was 17, his shoulders slumped, wearing an expression that could only hurt mothers the most, lovers second.
“I called her Iwa-chan,” it was a small voice, one that reminded his mother of young little Tooru, and she stroked his cheek with a solemn smile.
“That’s the third one, isn’t it? You really like that name don’t you.”
Tooru let his head rest against her shoulder, an indication for his mother that she hit the target. She stroked his hair and smiled knowingly.
Sometimes there are people who’s names become precious. Sometimes it’s easier to be the one walking into someone’s direction instead of waiting for them to walk this way. Sometimes you just need a little push to start walking.
v.
“Tooru, what’s this emergency? I came rushing home when I found out you’d be coming out of the blue? You’re 21, be responsible and tell me what’s happening on the phone before--”
“Mom,” Tooru stood with starry eyes and a bright smile. “I asked Iwa-chan.”
She glanced at the boy holding Tooru’s hand, his cheeks flushed and a smile fighting his way out onto his lips.
“You really love that name don’t you?” She asked.
“Not just the name,” Tooru said, smiling wide, “I love all of Iwa-chan.”
I see aus with Oikawa being the prince and Iwa falling for his ~ princely looks and manners ~ or whatever but hear me out on this:
What if Iwaizumi was the prince - a handsome, respected royal that’s loved by literally the whole kingdom. He always stops on his way somewhere if he sees someone poor and gives them money, or he buys a kid an apple or something and gives the kid the Iwaizumi Hajime Smile (and that kid ends up dreaming to serve that kind of guy you know??)
And Oikawa is a pretty guy working at a tavern and he’s got a reputation - everyone thinks he’s so beautiful and it’d be an honour to be served by him and he loves it. He gets more tips than anyone else and he charms his way into every rich-looking-person’s wallet.
So when Prince Iwaizumi comes into the tavern to yell at the owner for kicking out a homeless guy, Oikawa’s all “damn he’s hot and I bet I can charm him easy”
but.......little does Oikawa know.......Prince Handsome Iwaizumi is also Prince Dense Iwaizumi who can’t take a hint like that and isn’t swayed one bit by Pretty As A Princess Oikawa.
And Oikawa’s like, in shock, because he’s pretty??? Like pretty as a princess??? How could the prince not see this??
So what does he decide to do? Oikawa tries to get a job at the castle and charms his way into being one of Prince Iwaizumi’s aides.
And Prince Iwaizumi tries to test him - he attacks him and it turns out that Oikawa was actually VERY skilled at sword fighting, but he was trying to cover it up for whatever reason
Oikawa’s goal is to get money out of Prince Iwaizumi, but the more he tries to flirt with him and get to know him, the more he falls for him.
And he gets into this emotional turmoil of “the prince would never like me back” “I lied to him about my incentives for this job and he’d never trust me again if I told him” and “I want to protect him with everything that I’ve got so that I get to be near him at least”
