How long have you been practicing the violin and what tips do you have for beginners? I've never played an instrument, so the violin will be my first.
For the better portion of my life ;)
Hmmm, I'm no expert... but here a few things
Don't forget your rosin and shoulder rest!
Use a tuner to properly tune your open strings- lowest to highest- G, D, A, and then E. Tune from the A down and then come back for the E.
Scales- Scales can be kinda of boring at times, but they are the foundation for literally every single piece out there. They'll also allow you to familiarize yourself with the layout of the violin (so you know where to put your fingers). Start with just playing one octave scales and slowly build up to 2 (and eventually 3). I also recommend warming up with one note per full bow. This will allow you to pay attention to the quality of sound you're producing.
But certainly, also practice some fun and proper pieces of music
Practice in front of a mirror- A straight bow produces better tone. (i'm not there yet...)
Hold your violin and bow properly- I'm certain that google images contains photos of proper bow holds and etc.
Give yourself time and don't be daunted. Certainly no one has just picked up an instrument and performed like a virtuoso. It takes time to build up experience and knowledge. it will sometimes be really frustrating and aggravating at times(trust me, I've been there), but your hard work will really pay off!
Last of all, have fun! It's a joy to make music!
There's probably a whole lot that I could've added, but this is what I have from the top of my head at the moment. If other questions surface, I can certainly attempt to address them with my amateur knowledge!
(and if my fellow musician friends/followers have any other tips, do tell)
