“Movie Age” April 27, 1929 (Volume 07; Issue # 23)
Laurel & Hardy's’ “Unaccustomed As We Are” accompanied “The Broadway Melody” during its original release on May 4th, 1929. “Unaccustomed” was a sound on disc release & the 16 inch sound track discs would be lost from the film some time after it’s initial release. As it happens, the discs would get damaged or broken & didn’t always get sent back to the studios. They were too large to be played on a regular home phonograph. Thank goodness some record collectors managed to have saved many of these, & the soundtrack discs would eventually be reunited with the film’s image in the 1980's! A similar thing had happened with the Our Gang film, “Railroadin’”!
