oscar’s fingers curled into fists, his knuckles white against the worn leather of the couch. the pain in his side was sharp, but it was nothing compared to the searing irritation clawing its way up his throat. her words hit him like a sucker punch, each syllable sharpened to cut. that sly smile of hers was a blade, and he felt it twist with every smug word she threw at him. he didn’t look at her right away. Instead, his gaze fixed on the floor, the dark grain of the wood blurring as his thoughts spiraled. bitter, acrid anger mixed with something he didn’t want to name. he clenched his jaw so tightly it hurt, the muscle ticking beneath his scruffy cheek. “yeah?” he said, his voice rough and low, like gravel scraped across pavement. his lips twisted into a bitter smirk as he finally lifted his gaze to hers. “maybe i should’ve let him keep his teeth, then. that way, you could’ve kissed him goodbye properly next time.”
