Missing Light | Sandra Mujinga

In Sandra Mujinga's “Every Shadow is the Shadow of Something”, an avatar is shown being multiplied into a myriad versions that fade in and out of sight and appear to morph into each other and disseminate. The multiple bodies form a pulsing, but also fragile mass, that feels like it could break apart at any moment, but at the same time we are repeatedly confronted with the direct gaze of the avatar's eyes, breaking with the objecthood of the infinitely multiplied body in flashes of lucid subjectivity. Meanwhile 4 video loops are showing different ways of being in transit, states of indeterminacy. Taking the airport as an image of the ultimate site of indeterminacy, where one at the same time can go anywhere, and also be practically imprisoned, the double exposure of entrapments into never-ending loops disguising as infinite possibilities. Coming from an overarching theme of shadows, as that which is neither light nor dark but the product of both, attaining a substance, however ephemeral, of its own, the body multiple, the poly-body, that both in the physical and digital world is multiplied, displaced, moved, and as an answer multiplies itself, moves itself, displaces itself. Like sitting in an airplane is both the ultimate freedom, and at the same time the least free one can be. On an airplane one is no-where, the body is suspended, not only between the sites of departure and arrival, but also suspended between the source of light and the surface of projection.

Sandra Mujinga, born in 1989, Goma DR Congo, is a Norwegian artist who, while having been mostly active in Malmö and Oslo, is currently based in Berlin. No, but I have heard of it and am planning to watch it sometime in the future.

AoM's A/W 15 is a much better improvement compared to last season A/W (it looked a lot like a mash up of BBS/BBS 11, very boring overall). This collection's show their identity much better (still reminds me of BBS with the overall military aesthetic and use of orange) but managed to make it their own w/o it feeling copied/unoriginal. Good collection, was interesting.

Oh, I totally agree with you. They are going in good direction and improving nicely. And this was their first presentation on MBFW Amsterdam. At first, it is noticeable influence from BBS in general, but then again seems like orange will be main detail for Fall 2015. Which is good, breaking standard monochrome palette and making it more ‘exposed’. What I like here is that in this collection you can actually see whole of their previous work and great improvement. Really clean cuts, nice silhouette, sharp and edgy a bit… but over all very nicely layered. Gloves and one-piece suit are amazing. I really like this collection.

What are your thoughts on JULIUS' FW 15 and any particular piece that's your favorite?

I say it could be one of my favorite collections. It’s much better than previous ones. I like the fact that the whole collection is play of contrasts and shapes. Combination of volume and silhouette is back, big plus. Also, it has sharpness, and style reminds me of some engineer/corporate one. True, it has less industrial touch than previous collections, but I still like it. It’s clean. And definitely favorite pieces are pointy shoulders and leather cargos. I just can’t take my eyes of em.

I'm really struggling to find any interesting mens clothes in the UK, especially any that are affordable..I was wondering if you knew any? Love your taste, it's very similar to mine. Hello to you too!Well, I am not from UK but I do know few stores where you can ‘dig’ some interesting clothing for decent money (all depends of the offer at that moment) or perhaps if you are lucky to grab a nice discount too: Closet Case (London), Intro (Manchester), Rabbit hole (London), Vertice (London), LN-CC (London)… Also, check the ‘regular’ ones like H&M, Zara, Bench. or sport wear shops… from time to time happens they have decent stuff too.But if you need online shops, message me again (or send me an email) and, perhaps I can help you more better.
