"Don't touch her!" snarled the man, giving a furious look toward the people who had been approaching the woman, quickly moving to her side and ignoring the many whispers of bystanders. This was one of the reasons he hated those traitorous cars... Oh Alice, his poor Alice... She looked so fragile right now...
"Alice.." he whispered softly, stroking her hair out of her face and flinching at the blood that started to pool under her. No... No, she couldn't die. Not after everything they had gone through... Grace had grown a liking to her, had started to accept having her around. He had so many more riddles to tell her... So many more stories she would enjoy.
"Jefferson..." she choked out, blood trickling down her chin. "Shh.. Shh, Alice.. I'm here... I'm here..." he whispered softly, stroking over her cheek. "I'm right here..." he promised, making a weak smile curl around her lips for a second. "I-it hurts... E-everything.. H-hurts so bad..." she managed to utter in a pained voice, making Jefferson try and swallow the lump in his throat. "I know, I know... It won't hurt anymore in a bit, it's going to be okay." he spoke, letting his fingers stroke over her cheek. Oh how he wished he could fix this... Whoever had dared to hit the woman, would be met with a mad hatter...
"I-I'm scared..." she whimpered. "You don't have to be, Alice... You don't have to be.. You're not alone.. I'm right here, you're going to be okay..." he comforted her, giving a light smile, though he felt as if he was breaking inside. Why wasn't the ambulance here yet? What the hell took them so long!?
"P-Promise you'll.. stay with me...?" she questioned, making him nod once. "Promise. I'll stay right here." he spoke, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead and squeezing her hand once.
Sirens, he heard sirens. Thank fuck...
"See? You're going to be fine, Alice!" he spoke with a smile, though the smile was not returned. He froze as the paramedics rushed at her, tried bringing her back. And all he could do was lean back in shock, shoulders slowly slumping down.
He heard the whispers from paramedic to paramedic. Her death. Her time of death. No. She wasn't gone... The male twitched lightly before glaring up at them. "Why weren't you here sooner?! he screamed, darting to his feet. "Why didn't you save her?! Why didn't you save her?!" he shouted out in anger, trying to ignore the pained feeling in his chest as he shoved them aside and sank down next to Alice.
She couldn't be gone... He swallowed, stroking her hair once before finally holding her close to his chest. "Alice... Alice, i'm sorry.. Oh, Alice..." he uttered, pressing a kiss to her forehead before swallowing as the tears dripped down on her face.
"But I promised her it would be okay..."
