Omg he'st the COOLEST. Every Friday they get this massive delivery of baked goods from a Chinese bakery in Chicago, and always it's like me, aka the random white girl, and lots of Chinese moms/grandmas there waiting for the truck.  I always just picked foods to try at random because I can't read any of the labels. And then one day when I was at the check-out he asked if I knew Chinese and I said no, and that was the end of the conversation, and I thought it was weird.

But then the next week when I showed up, he followed me to the back where I browsed blindly in the past, and he just started quietly reading the baked goods to me so I knew what I was looking at/trying. I would pick something up to look at, he would quietly explain without me asking. So without us discussing it at all, he's started acting as my guide. And now the moms/grandmas have realized what is happening and they all fight over what's the best recommendation for the Random White Girl this week. 

Obvs me and Asian Market Fellow are besties now.
