And finally, some backgrounds. Backgrounds are hard, guys. Like yeah perspective is hard but also consistency is hard, and thinking of buildings is hard. I'd say even if I didn't develop carpal tunnel and spine damage during the making of chapter 6, the cafeteria table backgrounds would still have made updates very slow.

The Mistaire drawings are from when I was testing pen tools in Krita. Chapters 1-5 were made in an unupdated Gimp 2.2 installation. Chapter 6 was done in Krita so I had to decide what pen settings to use to match what I was used to. About halfway through the chapter I switched to a new tablet too!

Here's outfit models for the mains, including Clarisse and Taylor who are barely in chapter 6. And outfits for the last two pages of the chapter, which takes place the next day. There's actually an error on Marjolaine's aura picture; in the page where you actually see her aura it has the Scythe medal properly on her chest.

Speaking of auras, there's a little side note on Tony's page where you can see his pre-Mistaire aura. Taylor has two auras too, how interesting. I wonder what that means!

Originally Ethyr was the focal point of a throwaway love triangle between Mistaire and Tesmaula, with the point of the plot being that Mistaire dropped the entire love triangle when she left school.  So one day she’d return and see her old boyfriend dating her rival and realize she doesn’t care because she has new friends.  The more I developed Ethyr and Tesmaula the more I realized they were better characters without that angle.  So maybe they’re all just friends.  (also I don’t think Ethyr is even interested in girls)

More chapter 5 stuff.  These were my costume references for the main cast.  ‘OBNOXIOUS the movie’ is a reference to Teen Wolf.  The original movie, not the tv show.  Tacos is a Dragonball thing.

I started this one with an entirely different color concept and then switched over to the desaturated almost-monotone.  I’ll decide in the morning if I like it or not.

One of the jokes with Mistaire being part of the Ranestory class is that she’s the only one with no combat skills...and then she gets taken out of class for magic tutoring because she has EXTREMELY powerful magic.  And joins a squad of superheroes.  But for now she’s just a scared normie in a class full of aliens and wizards.

EDIT: I realzied what was supposed to be an errant raygun blast looked like Rane was farting and edited it to be more obviously not coming from her.
