So after Foxtuft was exiled from the territories, Embercloud knew he’d come back someday to hurt her and her siblings, so she decided to be proactive about the impending threat, and take care of it.
She tracked him for days, trying to figure out how best to bring him down. He was bigger and stronger than her, with more experience to boot. She was faster, but she would loose if she fought him head on fair and square.
As she was finally getting caught up to him, she happened across a yew bush, and an idea sparked in her mind: she would coat her claws in deathberry juice.
She got in the first attack, dodging and darting around to avoid his attacks as the poison began to take its toll, and his attacks grew weaker and weaker
Eventually, she wears him down, backing him up against a river, driving him further into the water before taking advantage of his weakened state to drown Foxtuft the way he had drowned Chicorymist all those moons ago.
She let the river carry his body away, watching from the shallows as the water washed the deathberry juice and blood from her paws. It was finally done, she’d avenged her father and protected her siblings. That completion led to all the exhaustion of the battle, of the journey to find Foxtuft, the lack of sleep from the journey, all of it caught up to her at once. She collapsed on the shore.
When she woke up, she was in a small grassy hollow in the treeline, and there was a new cat she’d never met before tending her wounds.
Cricket, as he turned out to be named, was a loner who lived in the area. He’d found her by the river when he’d gone to go fishing in the shallows and brought her away from the bank where he could treat her wounds.
He traveled with her as she journeyed back to Pineclan, the two of them growing close along the way. In the week or so it took to get back, he decided to join her in Pineclan, having fallen hard and wanting to properly court her.
As their feelings for each other grew, eventually Embercloud found herself expecting kits. Cricket and Embercloud were overjoyed, and a couple moons later, they welcomed Mistkit into the world, named after Chicorymist.
