-PROLOGUE-
The ghosts were especially active tonight. The small black and white kit shivered from where he sat watching from atop the fence. Half and full moons always did seem to rile them up, especially around his owner’s home.
A voice called out to him, a tall figure standing in the doorway beckoning him back inside, out of the cold night air and into the cozy warmth of his nest.
So he ignored the shimmering cats with glowing eyes and stars in their pelts. Ignored the whispers that always came with them, and jumped down into his own garden.
Back to comfort
Back to Safety
And away from the unknown that haunted his dreams.
-CHAPTER ONE-
Smudge was content in his life, he was, really. They stories from the older cats his owners fostered was adventure enough for him. He didn’t need exploration beyond the fence, or to run through the trees. He was happy with his life. He had caring owners, and a neighbor kit his age to play with.
And yet the whispers, as much as they terrified him, always seemed to call to him. Rusty thought he was just imagining things. Most cats did. No one else seemed to be able to see or hear the sarry-furred cats he often saw running through the trees in the woods behind his house. That was fine, he didnt like talking about them anyways.
Rusty though…he’d caught the other kit staring longingly into the trees on more than one occasion. He didn’t see how many of those ghosts were young kits like them, so why would he share Smudge’s fear?
The black and white heaved a sigh pushing himself to his paws and stretching as his previously sunny spot fell to shadows with the setting sun. He didn’t usually stay out this late, but because he did, he saw it. One of those last rays of sunlight landing on something atop the neighboring fence, lighting up like flames.
Smudge blinked, running a paw over his eyes before looking again just to be sure. When he looked again though, the fire was gone, leaving only Rusty sitting atop the fence, his brilliant ginger fur easy to spot even in the fading light.
Smudge frowned. Rusty was looking out into the woods again. He looked even more determined than usual actually, crouching down and getting ready to leap down to the forest side of the fence. Was he actually going to go into the woods this time?!
“Going somewhere Rusty?” He called out, jumping up to thw top of the femce to join his friend without thinking.
Rusty startled, turning to look at him with large green eyes full of guilt
“Ah! Just for a bit! Maybe to catch a mouse or two?”
Smudge tilted his head in disbelief
“Listen! I just wanna look around! I’ll be back before you know it!” He grinned
Smudge sighed “do you even know how dangerous those woods are? You’re barely more than a kit you know, what are gunna do about all the beasts n the wild cats?”
Rusty shot him an incredulous look “on about the monsters again? Those are just kit tails Smudge!”
Smudge shook his head “its not all made up, the wild cats at least are real, Henry saw them”
Another scoff from his friend “that fat ol tabby?”
Smudge took an insistant step forward, startling rust a bit “I mean it Rusty! Maybe not these days, but he’s been in the woods before! He caught a robin once”
Rusty rolled his eyes and jumped down to the ground “you worry too much Smudge, I’ll be fine”
Smudge anxiously shuffled his paws on the fence, looking from Rusty to the ghost-filled woods.
“Aaugh! Fine! But I’m coming with you!” He declared, jumping down from the fence with a slight stumble next to his friend.
Rusty turned, giving a confused head tilt “you sure? You’re the one who keeps tellin me how spoooooky the woods are” he teased, cause Smudge to lash his tail in annoyance
“Y-yes!!” He stammered “I am, now lets got get you your stupid mouse so we can go home!” He declared with a huff, trying to keep his tail confidently raised as he walked, ignoring Rusty’s laughter as the other tom bounded over.
“We’ll be fine, im tellin ya, it’s just stories” Rusty reassured him, giving Smudge a soft headbutt on the shoulder.
Smudge gave him a soft headbutt back, trying to filter out the whispers that had grown louder as they entered the woods. Whispers of Fire and Deliverance.
The words were so distracting, he didn’t even realize Rusty had darted on ahead until he heard the other tom kit cursing
“Damn!-“
Smudge looked up from his thoughts in panic to see Rusty several paces ahead, clawing at the roots of a tree. Oh good, he was worried he’d hurt himself or something, but it looked like he’d just missed a mouse or some other creature judging by the hole under the roots.
“I almost had that rotten mouse!” He huffed, turning back to Smudge. “Lets keep going, im sure i’ll get the next one!”
“You wanna go deeper?!” He squeaked
“Its been just fine so far! Look around Smudge! This is way better than a lousy garden!”
Actually taking a moment to look around and rake everything in, Smudge realized Rusty was right.
The moonlight filtering through the trees bathed everything in a soft silver glow, and there were plants and smells he’d never encountered before in the safety of his garden. It was actually kind of…beautiful. He’d been so afraid of the spirits he always saw wandering that he’d never ventured past the treeline before.
“I guess…its not so bad” he admitted.
“that’s the spirit Smudge!!” Rusty beamed “now come-on! Lets keep goi-wouff!!!” His words were cut short as a blue of grey and fur barreled into him, pinning him to the ground.
Before Smudge had even thought through what he was doing, he’d charged forward and slammed himself into his friends attack with all his might, kocking him off and giving him the chance to pull Rusty to his paws
“We gotta go!!” He hissed insistently, pushing Rusty forward as the two of them began to beeline back to the forest edge where the fence to their homes waited.
There was only one problem.
They weren’t alone.
Their assailant continued chasing them, and they were fast. Smudge could hear them catching up, pawsteps pounding the earth behind them. ‘I don’t think i’ll make it’ he thought, ‘i’m not as fast as Rusty, there’s no way we’ll make it to the fence in time’ he squeezed his eyes shut as he ran, preparing for the inevitable
And then something wooshed past him, and he opened his eyes to see Rusty was no longer ahead of him. Turning, skipping to a stop, he realized the whoosh had been Rusty turning back to face their attacker, who seemed just as surprised as Smudge by this, and tried to stop as well.
They were going too fast though, and the leaf litter on the forest floor caused them to skid forward and tumble right into Rusty, and the both of them in turn tumbled into smudge, leaving the three in a pile of limbs and fur.
“Wow!” Came an unfamiliar voice as their pursuer untangled himself from the other two and sat back, starting to groom himself
“Never seen a kittypet do that before!”
A what?
Rusty stood to his paws and helped Smudge back up, looking just as confused as. Smudge felt at the sudden change in behavior
“I’m Greypaw by the way! Warrior apprentice of Thunderclan, which is the territory you’re in right now by the way”
The two house cats exchanged a look
“Well, I’m Rusty, and this is my friend Smudge”
“Nice ta meetcha Rusty n Smudge!. You reeeally shouldn’t be here by the way!” Greypaw answered them all too cheerfully for someone who’d just scared the daylights out of them “you’re lucky you ran into me and not a fully trained warrior, they wouldn’t have let you off so easy”
Smudge shuddered “if you’re just in training, then I don’t wanna know what ‘warrior’ would’ve done”
“Still better of then any of the other clans probably” the grey kit shrugged. At least, Smudge was pretty sure he was a kit like them. He looked about his and Rusty’s age
“One of those mangy Shadowclanners probably would’ve shredded you no questions asked”
That sounded terrifying. Smudge really really wanted to go home now.
“I believe I taught you better than to befriend intruders Greypaw” a new, much deeper voice cut through the darkness, cause Smudge and Rusty both to jump back a bit.
A massive golden tabby-tom emerged from the bushes, followed a sleek, silvery-blue molly. She was at first only looking at Rusty, but her eyes fell to Smudge, and for a moment, a pained look seemed to fill her eyes, though it was gone almost faster than he could register, and her attention was now on Greypaw
“Ah! Lionheart!” Greypaw startled, dipping his head at the two cats who had just entered the clearing before looking back at the other two and gesturing that they do the same. “That’s my mentor Lionheart and our leader, Bluestar
Smudge bowed his head right away, and Rusty, though clearly confused, also complied.
The blue molly gave a mrrp of laughter
“Well, thank you for the introduction Greypaw, as per your mentor’s question, while I am also curious about why you are befriending intruders, i must say I’m impressed with how the two of them handled your attack” her whisker twitched with amusement as she spoke
“Even with two on one, most kittypets lack proper training to catch a clan cat off guard like that, especially kits such as yourselves”
Rusty seemed to swell in pride at the praise, drinking it in, while Smudge was…distracted. There was a very kind looking ghost that seemed to follow Bluestar. He wasn’t quite sure how he could tell kindness from their whispy, starry starry features and blank white eyes, but of all the ghosts he’d seen, this one seemed the most calm and at peace.
He was snapped out of his thoughts and back to the conversation to Bluestar snapping at Rusty about how little prey there really was in the wild, how while he hunted for fun, they hunted to survive.
He shrunk back, pressing himself to Rusty’s side, and she seemed to suddenly look a bit guilty about her outburst
She heaved a sigh, calming herself before she continued
“It’s not your fault you didn’t know. The two of you were born into soft lives, never having to want for anything. Not food or warmth. Never having to worry about fighting to secure the safety of your clanmates. You don’t even know about our code, or starclan” she shook her head
“Starclan?” Smudge asked, tilting his head to the side, confused. He wasn’t sure why that of all things caught his attention, but Bluestar’s attention snapping back to him made him shrink back again. Those icy blue eyes of hers were intense as they looked him over, curiousity flooding her expression as she looked him over, and then Rusty again.
“Starclan are our warrior ancestors, they watch over us always and guide our paws when needed to help us protect our clans.” Lionheart jumped in to explain
“That’s where the stars come from!” Greypaw chimed in before getting hushed again by his mentor.
“Its unusual for kittypets such as yourselves to be interested in learning about our traditions and way of life” Bluestar mused, seemingly deep in thought “perhaps…”
Lionheart seemed to realize something, his pelt fluffing up in indignation “Bluestar, surely not-“
“Lionheart” she cautioned with a warning tone before softening and turning back to Smudge and Rusty.
“The two of you may have been born outside of the clans, but you both display a level of curiosity and loyalty not often seen. Most of all, you may just have a warrior’s spirit, even if you don’t have warrior blood” Bluestar explained
Wait, did that mean-
“How would the two of you like a chance to live a life like ours? To live free of the confines of your twolegs and become warriors like us” she offered
Smudge couldn’t believe she was asking them. Surely there was no way they would, right? But looking over to Rusty, he saw excitement unlike anything he’d ever seen in the orange tom’s eyes.
“Can we have some time to think about it?” He found himself asking before he could stop himself
Rusty turned to him with surprise and a little hurt
“I just…my housefolk…they have other cats, so I…I don’t wanna leave them wondering what happened to me if I go” he shuffled his paws nervously.
Realization seemed to dawn on Rusty’s face as well. His sister, Princess. He’d be leaving her behind too.
Bluestar nodded “that’s a respectable sentiment. If you join us, you cannot live a paw in both worlds after all. It would mean leaving everything you know behind” she sounded oddly sympathetic.
she stood, shaking out her pelt and turning to leave.
“I’ll send Lionheart to fetch you at sun-high tomorrow for your answer. Think over your choice carefully so you don’t have any regrets”
And the she dove into the underbrush, bounding away deeper into the territory. Lionheart gave Greypaw a nudge to his paws, and the two of them followed suit leaving Smudge and Rusty alone in the clearing.
The whole walk home, Rusty chattered away about their encounter, but Smudge barely processed a word of it. His mind was still stuck on the offer. Why? The two of them were outsiders. Bluestar and Lionheart had called them intruders only moments before, and yet…she had seemed so genuine with her offer.
Living in the wild sounded hard and scary. Smudge wasn’t sure if he’d be able to manage it if he was being honest. But Rusty probably could. Looking at how excited the other tom was about the whole thing, Smudge didn’t have any doubts what Rusty would choose. Maybe…maybe if it was the two of them. Maybe then Smudge could handle it. As long as he wasn’t alone.
“You going back to your den or mine”
Rusty’s voice cut through his thoughts
“H-huh?” He blinked, looking around and realizing that he’d followed Rusty into his garden instead of going to his own. “Oh! Yes, sorry!” He stammered, turning to leap up to the fence that divided their dens
“It’s gunna be okay Smudge” Rusty called after him, voice brimming with such confidence Smudge turned back for a moment
“Yeah?”
He nodded “yep! I’m not sure why, but I’ve just got this feeling about all this! Fate’s got somethin big in store for us!” He chirped, turning away from smudge and bounding across his yard “I’ll see you tomorrow Smudge!”
And this he was gone. Slipped back inside through the flap at the bottom the door leaving Smudge alone in the night.
He turned his gaze upwards to the stars, the same stars there were supposedly the ancestors that watched over and guided the living.
He hoped they were real.
Jumping back up onto the fence, then down into his own yard, he made his way inside his own den. His housefolk and the other cats they fostered were asleep. Some of them stirred when he entered, but quickly resumed their rest when they realized it was just him.
Curling up in his bed, he couldn’t help but wonder if this would be the last time he slept in it. Her curled up tighter, his tail curling around to cover his nose.
All he could do now was sleep and see what tomorrow would bring.

Today’s doodles featuring Barley’s siblings, and Darktail!!
I dont really have much to say about Violet, Hoot, or Jumper’s designs, but I wanted to make Darktail kinda big-earred and lanky like how i intend to draw Onewhisker, but with thicker fur like his mom. Im not entirely set on how i did his marking placement, but we’ll see lol
Bravesong had always considered herself to be an honest and fair cat. Despite her age, she’d never been afraid to speak her mind when she had an opinion on something, even when it got her into trouble. So here she stood in front of the entirety of her clan, standing up for her beliefs once again. This time though, it wasn’t just her own life that hung in the balance
“The code is clear Bravesong,” Burningstar declared, voice icy “there is to be no relations between cats of different clans. These bastard kits have no place here”
“And so you’d call to exile defenseless kits to the wilds?! That’s just murder with extra steps!!” She spat at her leader, standing protectively over the two kits in question. “It’s also against the code to bring harm to kits, or have you forgotten?!”
“These kits are already born of broken code. They do not belong in any of the clans, let alone mine. My decision is final” she snarled
“No” Bravesong refuted, staring up at her leader in defiance. “You’re wrong. They do belong, maybe not here, maybe not even in the other clans, but they belong, and they will be loved and cared for even if i have to make them a place to belong myself!”
Burningstar sneered at her “as if starclan would let a such a mousebrained thing come to be, but fine. You want to play at being a clan leader so badly? You can join the scraps in exile. No longer will you be welcome in Adderclan”
“Then I will leave as well” a voice called from the croud as another cat strode forth to stand by Bravesong’s side. Bravesong couldn’t help the small purr that rumbled in her chest as she recognized her beloved mate Willowdrift
He pressed his forehead to hers before he continued “Any clan that calls for the death of an innocent kit is not a clan I can stand to be a part of!”
Burningstar looked furious at this declaration, but before she could respond, two more voices called out from the crowd
“Us neither!!”
“What Violetpaw said!”
Violetpaw and Frozenpaw. Hers and Willowdrift’s apprentices. Bravesong felt a swell of pride at that. Those two were becoming fine young cats.
Burningstar gave a scoff “of course you’d side with them. As your mentors, they clearly poisoned your minds against the clan”
“It’s not just the younguns trainin with Bravesong ‘n’ Willowdrift who share their views” an older voice called from the edge of the clearing where Greypelt, the clan’s now retired medicine cat was hauling himself to his paws and striding foreward. “I’m sure you must know this isn’t something starclan would condone Burningstar, you’re just too old and badger-headed to see sense.” He padded forward, coming to a stop by Bravesong’s side. “Luckily, not all of us elders are”
Bravesong dipped her head in gratitude to the older tom’s words of agreement to her stance.
Burningstar’s tail lashed behind her. “FINE!! Then all of you can be exiled! This clan has no room for traitors the likes of you anyways. Take your scraps of fur you’ve decided to throw away your lives for and leave!”
Looking around the clearing, there were very few who met Bravesong’s gave. Most of them were too terrified of Burningstar to even dream of defying her. So they were silent because it kept their lives easier. Even at the cost of others. Despicable. And yet she couldn’t bring herself to hate them.
Bravesong bent down to pick up one of the two kits, Willowdrift grabbing the other. With one last glare at Burningstar, Bravesong led the group out of the camp and into the territory, heading for the border to the lands beyond.
Onwards to carve out a new home where these little ones could live and grow, where they could have a chance to thrive.
Adderclan camp was quiet now, a stark contrast from the earlier events of the day. The cool night air brought a chill to Alderpaw's fur where she sat in the medic den replaying Bravesong's Exile in her head.
She should've said something. Should've done something!
She should've gone with them.
She still could.
Looking up to the stars through the gap in the overcropping of rocks that made up the Adderclan medic den, they seemed to glow brighter, as if encouraging her thoughts.
She still would.
Rising to her paws, she checked to make sure Swanpool was asleep in her nest, Alderpaw carefully made her way out of the medic den. skirting around the back of den, she squeezed through an old hole in the brambles her brother had found when they were kits. It was a tight fit now that she was an apprentice, but she was out of the camp.
She was really doing this.
It wasn't hard to pick up the scent of Bravesong's group. Her paws trembled, equal parts fear and determination as she followed the trail, sneaking further and further from camp. Her paws began to move faster under her, carrying her further from the only home she'd ever known.
She hoped her mother would understand. This was something she had to do, no matter how much it hurt to leave her family behind. Sparing a glance behind her as she ran, she almost wished she could take them with her. She knew they'd never join her though. Burningstar was a terror, yes, but Alderpaw's mother and brother were loyal Adderclan cats. For better or worse.
Turning her gaze forward again, she picked up her pace. The sooner she caught up to the others, the better. So with a scent trail at her paws, and the stars above her head, she carried onwards towards an unknown future

Dude you don't know how hard it is to find MAPs to join when you're a post OotS arc fan, all I see is Mapleshade, Hollyleaf, Swiftpaw, Firestar and pre super edition Ivypool. It's getting a bit old.......
Do you think ME, Darktail's number one apologist wants to draw Mapleshade a hundred times?
There's a reason I stay away from Mapleshade fans........they're scary
Make Darktail MAPs instead, he has a super edition
So uh, it is later. Far later than i planned. But have more prophecy breaker art
You may notice a few name changes!! ((I actually forgot to change Tigerclaw’s name to Tigerspots as he’s named in this au)) i’ll get into those on a later post, but i’ve got a few of those throughout this au!!

Digging more into the account I will no longer vaguepost about this account. Please block this person. @gendercriticalwolfess (her alt is @photonstarflight ) I’m not one to make massive callout posts BUT I do have a lot of followers and when someone does have a lot of followers they should use that power “for good”.
This is the artist who made the Jumalanpelko fanart of Viima (a trans man) as a Proud Cis Woman™️. Turns out the account is all about transphobia and advocating for people who are trans to accept who they “really are” and l don’t think I need to explain how problematic that is.
They tag their posts as Transgender just so they can get traction into trans spaces even when they’re transphobic. Fucking disgusting.
They have a post explaining how they once found comfort in the trans community but eventually decided it was “a trap” and some form of closed minded bubble. So they left and accepted who they really were. (Which is fine for them to do)
But they have no space here in the Clangen Tumblr Community as far as I’m concerned! And I don’t want them hurting anyone else!
