The Pig in London and the Lamb in Israel
The Pig in London and the Lamb in Israel
Within the span of seven short days, I met two people who formed two completely divergent opinions of me. I could do nothing to change their rock-solid first impressions. That week of mistaken judgments happened thirty-five years ago, but it feels like last week.
When I was twenty years old, I wanted to spend a summer abroad, but as a college student I barely had enough money for Raman Noodles.…

Kaye: Why do you have a gameboy color?
Me: Because I'm awesome.
Kaye: You aren't.
Walks off...
Me: wooooahhhh, that's taking sass to a whole new level!
Kaye: What?
Me: … you said "are" didn't you… never mind.

Girl: Ohh you have your phone on you too!?
Me: Yeah haha
Girl: Ohh me too!
Me (being a sarcastic bitch): Ohh you rebel!

Today we had a representative from Islamic studies association come and talk to my religion class on the basic principals and beliefs of Islam. She was incredible, I'm totally gobsmacked by how beautiful and understanding the teachings are. The most of my surprise was due to my previous warped view on Islam, from the media and ethnocentric elders who cumulated incorrect ideas about the countries and its people. I'm ashamed to say that my understandings of Islam in its entirety was based on repetitive slams to Middle Eastern culture on television and the Internet that simply told me 'every man with black hair wearing a throbe, and every woman with a hijab was a terrorist or not to be trusted' the narrow view presented in the media breeds racism, social prejudice and general misunderstanding. As Islam and in particular sharia law manages to make it into the news at least twice a week, I feel it's important that we educate people, or better yet, educate yourself, look into the teachings and release yourself from the bias continually thrown at you left, right and center. Try to understand before you make judgements and arguments based on discriminatory babble. http://www.islamicity.com/education/understandingislamandmuslims/
