MADE IN THE AM REACTION/ALBUM REVIEW
Made In The A.M is One Direction's final album release before their 2016 hiatus and they're leaving us on a high!
Made In The A.M is the fifth album from the unstoppable force that is One Direction. It’s an important landmark in the band’s career, not only is it the first record release since Zayn Malik‘s departure, but it’s the last before the foursome goes on hiatus in 2016. The world waits to see what the future holds for the band, but their new album certainly suggests that they’re not done yet.
Since their debut Take Me Home back in 2011, the band’s musical style has progressed and matured with every new release. Their previous album Four felt like the first true step forward in terms of creating a distinctive One Direction style that Made In The A.M definitely follows suit. The songs are less in-your-face cheesy pop, but more about lyrical substance and creating music that sounds almost timeless. They still have fun elements to the album, reminding us why the boys have remained so popular. ‘Never Enough’ and ‘Olivia’ are perfect examples of this with fast, fun lyrics like “I live for you, I love for you, Olivia” and upbeat choruses that instantly make you want to press repeat. The singles ‘Drag Me Down’ and ‘Perfect’ blend seamlessly with the rest of the album’s sound and aren’t tiresome to listen to.
Although most of the album’s songs have an uplifting feel to them, its overall feeling is extremely relaxed. ‘I Want To Write You A Song’ and ‘History’, are two acoustic-led tracks with impressive vocal harmonies that wouldn’t sound out of place on an early McFly album. A true hidden gem is a duluxe track A.M. that tells stories of memorable late nights.
As much as people still hate to admit it, 1D aren’t your stereotypical boyband anymore. They still have perfect haircuts and their faces on lunch boxes, but that’s where it stops. Harry, Louis, Liamand Niall all have writing credits on the majority songs on Made In The A.M and their passion for the record shines through. There’s a new layer of maturity over this album that holds the band in good stead for the future. Amid all the chaos surrounding them, it feels that they’ve finally found their style with this record and it’s truly great. It’s hard not to already look forward to what 2017 may bring, but for now they’ve left fans with a corker of an album to keep them happy.
The aftermath of a long, drawn out year for the four members of One Direction concludes into one solid album that hails as one of the bands best.
‘what a feeling’ is insane. that’s the only way i can describe it. it’s upbeat, gorgeously harmonised and is one of the few songs i can listen to on repeat for hours and hours on end.
MITAM Review: Why Every Song is About Larry
Because as a Larrie I just can’t help but make everything about Larrie!11!!1!
Summary of MITAM Reviews
1. This is their last album, there is no such thing as a break in boyband land. 2. Their fans are really young. 3. Their fans are young women and girls. 4. Young people know nothing about what influences the band, ask your parents who Fleetwood Mac, The Police, The Beatles and U2 are. 5. I hate myself for saying this, but there are some good songs on this album. But they are of course only good because they remind me of X artist. 6. Did I mention that their fans are girls between 7 and 17 years and don’t know anything about sex? 7. Also, did I mention that this is their last album? 8. It will be interesting to see what their solo projects are going to be like.
Average 3/4 out 5 stars
Our guy Louis Tomlinson shines on Made In The A.M..
Ever since Simon Cowell envisioned the five guys together on “X Factor” in 2010, One Directionhas always been the perfect combination of voices to make their songs work — from their beginnings in the catchiest of pop music tailored for teens to Friday’s (Nov. 13) Made In The A.M.release.
Of course, each dude has had his standout moment throughout the years — Zayn, before his departure, was responsible for the high notes, Harry brought the grit, Liam rounded out their sound with low notes, Niall had that youthful charm and Louis brought the sweetness. After Zayn left, Harry took on his falsetto, but on their fifth album, it seems like Louis is taking ownership.
While Louis Tomlinson usually blends in with the other guys, Made In The A.M. provides him with tons of standout moments where he either belts it out or takes command on a solo — and fans are noticing. Here are the best Louis moments from Made In The A.M.:
That high note on ’End Of The Day’…
The ’I Want To Write You A Song’ chorus is so raspy but so angelic.
Louis closes out the retro-sounding ’Olivia’ with ’Don’t let me go.’
Lots of fans are loving his ’History’ bridge.
He sounds quite lovely on ’If I Could Fly.’
Louis’ solo and high note on ’Love You Goodbye’ is a Directioner’s dream.
On the album opener ’Hey Angel,’ Louis’ singing had some people like:

ONE DIRECTION'S 'MADE IN THE A.M.': 5 KEY TAKEAWAYS
Maria Sherman
From Louis Tomlinson's continued greatness to a new, mature, Fleetwood Mac-influenced style makeover, here are five key takeaways from 1D's latest effort
1. Louis Tomlinson’s Continued RiseHey guys!
Do you know our pal Louis Tomlinson? Once considered the foil to Harry Styles’ greatness, now the standout of One Direction? Even after the success of “No Control,” Louis’ newfound confidence continues on Made in the A.M. Not only does the guy have writing credits on half of the LP, he also just effin’ shreds with his voice (like, guitar-solo voice). His verse in the fun.-channeling “End of the Day” is especially remarkable.
2. The Influences Are Worn Proudly
One Direction love old rock and pop tunes, and they definitely don’t hide that love. Who doesn’t wear their influences on their sleeves every now and again? Made in the A.M. has the guys doing it in a big way on most tunes. The album begins with “Hey Angel,” which completely recalls Oasisand The Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony.”
3…And There’s a Perfect Fleetwood Mac Tune!
One Direction’s love and appreciation for Fleetwood Mac is well-documented. “Girl Almighty” and “Fireproof”from the band’s last album, Four, felt Mick Fleetwood-ian, but they were ultimately holding back a bit. That’s no longer the case. “What A Feeling” is arguably one of the best songs on the release, and it absolutely sounds like FM. This is like“Dreams” channeled through a boy band. What’s not to love?
4. There’s Much More Adult Content
One Direction are in the early twenties now, so they’re preoccupied with the things young adults are preoccupied with. You know, like gettin’ down and dirty, trashing hotel rooms with the one you love (for a night)… that sort of thing.Take “Love You Goodbye.” There is literally no way it’s about anything other than breakup sex. The chorus goes, “Oh, why you’re wearing that to walk out of my life? / Hey, hey, hey / Oh, even though it’s over you should stay tonight / Hey, hey, hey/If tomorrow you won’t be mine / Won’t you give it to me one last time?”
5. Niall’s Incredible Solo on “Olivia”
Okay, this is less of a takeaway than a “Holy shit, listen to those pipes! Who knew Niall Horan had it in him?” realization. His verse on “Olivia” sounds like Willy Wonka’s “Pure Imagination,” and drips with the same kind of magic. Don’t believe us? You gotta press play above!
