Melanie Daniels is a carefree socialite and chronic practical joker, and her nonchalant attitude towards life has landed her in legal court and in nationwide newspapers in the past.
Mitch Brenner is a charming lawyer who disapproves of Melanie’s antics in court but struggles to balance his own troubles with his overbearing mother Lydia, who chases away the women in Mitch’s life.
Melanie and Mitch meet by chance in a San Francisco bird shop, where Melanie tries to trick Mitch into thinking she is an employee but finds herself pranked by him in turn. Fascinated by each other, they meet again in his hometown of Bodega Bay, where Melanie meets Mitch’s younger sister Cathy, his old flame Annie, and Lydia, who immediately dislikes her. However, Mitch and Melanie’s blossoming relationship is threatened by a mysterious string of bird attacks, which worsen the longer Melanie stays in Bodega Bay. With seagulls, crows, and sparrows attacking every person in sight, Mitch and Melanie are forced to work together to protect themselves and the people they love from certain death.
