Ideas for a video
1)I will create a poem inspired by Maya Deren’s unpublished poetry called Never Alone. This poem will articulate the idea that one is never fully alone. It will then explain the healing power of animals as they can offer comfort and support, through unconditional love.
The video will have text of the poem juxtaposed with a images in the background.
2) Take a video of a tidal pool during certain hours of the day where I will focus on the shadows and light reflections in the water. How it could create a narrative through the reflections, shadows, colours and patterns.
This relates to global warming and the pollution of the earth, Using the idea of a rock pool as a microcosm of our environment which is effected by plastic and pollution. Especially since their was a Climate Change March today.
This could either be in black or white or colour which will be edited afterwards. The video will be only a few minutes and will be filmed from Dale Brook( A tidal pool in Kalk Bay).
3)Make a moving stop motion video with objects and drawings such as boxes or shoes to tell a narrative. Juxtaposed with shadows of myself at night where only my silhouette is visible.
The objects are trying to move toward a destination but get caught in a continues circle. The use of colour will also have a deep symbolism in the short video as it gives more context.
4)Create a film acknowledging Louise Bourgeois’s insomnia drawings where I create my own drawings and writings. To use it as a spring board for my own video.
Where their is a sense of relentless with disassociated black and white images through the visual elements such as car alarms, reminders, alarms and animal sounds. Which the viewers can sense through the music in the background. There could also be a performance element which adds to the deeper meanings associated with Bourgeois’s words.
This could be done by videoing me drawing where the images look like they were alive and moving. I will use my own style where only my hands are visible or only show the drawings.
5) Finally a video based on Margaret Atwood’s True Stories poems which will be visualised through visuals and music, where I will either change both elements as it is progresses. It will highlight a few of the ideas about loneliness where shadows and darkness plays a prominent part in the video.
I will also write my own poem similar to the first question but make the background more mysterious and ambiguous.
