A fun little discussion from our last session
This was Iana's discussion with her Assassins Guild contact when she revealed that she was going to be cutting ties with the organization. This was all done over private chat with the player, so none of the other players have seen it yet. Some editing has been done to obscure the identity of the contact and make the actions flow a little smoother. Dialogue is unchanged.
Iana: heads towards the house, and knocks at the door.
Iana: *Enters the room with a stern look on her face* "I have a couple questions I need answered. And if they aren't answered, I'm not sure what I'll do."
Contact: "You're toeing the line here. The only reason we're considering this is because of how close you've gotten to Sandra."
Iana: *shakes her head* "I've been working with the Assassin's guild for the last couple years, I deserve answers."
Contact: "What are your questions?"
Iana: "With my parties involvement in uncovering cult activity, I discovered that you received both the antidote and the poison. Are we responsible for Sandra being poisoned. Did we give it to another group knowing full well that was going to be the outcome."
Contact: "We were hired to make a false assassination attempt against Sandra. This happened to correspond well with a chance to increase your standing with her and your group. Ideally, your involvement would have remained hidden, but circumstances forced us to adapt. Why? Does this bother you?"
Iana: "To be honest, it's bothering me more than it should. I'm not sure how much more involvement with the Guild I can handle. I understand you picked me up when I very well could have died on the streets, or being forced to do far worse, but I am having personal issues with what we're accomplishing here now. I am tempted to walk away from our arrangement."
Contact: * pauses quietly* "I'm sorry you feel this way. We did not realize that your personal feelings would conflict with Guild activities. While you know the sort of activities we perform, I suppose there is a difference in knowing intellectually and actually participating. We can adjust the sort of jobs we assign to you if that will help."
Iana: *sighs sadly* "But the problem now is that I'll know that this sort of thing is going on, and I'm not one to forget such things." *paces back and forth* "And I don't feel right having my party blaming an innocent group of people for the assassination attempt on Sandra, when I now know who was actually a part of it..."
Contact: *watches as Iana paces* "From what has happened, no innocent person has been blamed. The culprit has merely not been found. And the ones the blame points at are hardly innocent. Devil and demon worshipers, can you say they do not deserve such attention? If you wish to pull back on Guild activities, we understand, however, we cannot allow it if you will betray us."
Iana: "I would like to be able to tell my party what my involvement in this was. If I were to cease my involvement, I won't tell them the location of any of the meeting points, I won't tell them who is involved, what they look like. I just want these people to trust me." *looks the contact in the eye calmly* "I want to have some real companions for once, not just people I work with occasionally. I hope that makes sense."
Contact: "If you tell them your involvement, we cannot trust that you will not be interrogated for more information. Whether by your party or Sandra. If you tell them your connection to us, or your involvement in the false attack on Sandra, we will have no choice but to consider you an enemy of the Guild, and all information you know revealed. I will be forced to go into hiding and abandon Therinsford to the oncoming armies, leaving them scrambling to cover for the information and connections that only I have. All headquarters and locations you know of will be emptied and burned to destroy evidence." *stands passively before Iana as they list these facts off, almost as though it has no impact on them* "The chaos will only harm Therinsford in the coming days. We have no intention for the town to fall to these cults and barbarians, and our goal from this point on is the safety of Sandra. However, if you compromise us, all of that will be lost. Are you willing to harm the town this much in order to find these 'true companions'?"
Iana: "And how will you know that once I leave this meeting I just tell them straight out. The Assassin's Guild does not have ears everywhere."
Contact: "Are you saying that we cannot trust you?"
Iana: "I'm saying I have to tell them something. I solemnly swear that I won't release any other information other than my involvement. As far as I'm concerned that is all I know."
Contact: "We cannot trust that the information you have will not be compromised. We can only exist here as long as all information on our presence is kept hidden. Even revealing our existence as fact could spell our doom. Sandra does not know of our existence. Your actions could destroy everything we have here."
Iana: *looks down sadly, knowing she may cause more chaos then she'd be sparing* "I have to do this, I'm sorry."
Contact: *shakes their head sadly* "I'm sorry. You had such potential to be a great member of the Guild. As of now, we must consider you an enemy of the Guild."
Iana: *turns away* "Thank you for all you have done for me in the past. Hopefully, once all is said in done, things will be better on both sides of the city, the secret, and the not so secret. Have a pleasant evening." And at that she leaves the building.
