The Day The Crayons Quit
I’m working on a bunch of topics with my kids, this term, but one of the most fun is definitely The Day The Crayons Quit! I love this cute picture book, and it’s ability to be transformed into all sorts of cross-curricula activities.
Starting with the crucial group reading of the book itself, we’ve moved on to a simple comprehension worksheet, letter writing exercise, themed word search, and a fab crayon box craftivity. (I also had an extra ‘what do you like to draw with [whatever] crayon’ worksheet, for early finishers.)
You can pick up a free copy of my The Day The Crayons Quit packet at TpT. The letter writing exercises have been a particular hit, as this story has really captured the kids’ imaginations.
I used the gorgeous free clipart by Be Merry Clipart and Creations to print off a colourful crayon box and some blank crayons, which were coloured in and mounted on card stock.
Moving forward, I’m planning on some PSHE work on feelings, which I’ll adapt to suit my composite class level. Then, we’ll have a look at how crayons are made, before moving on to some science work and a review of states of matter (liquid to solid).
All in all, it could be a worse return after half term! ;)
