Using the Likert scale you can turn qualitative data into quantitive.

Process must be repeatable with the same outcome. At least 3 times.

Quasi experimental tests:

Surveys:

situations where not all variables cant be controlled.

surveys may be scientific ie. ecology

look to sample a representative proportion of the whole population. ie male/female ratio kept true for the sample group. 

Management based surveys are typically through questionnaire.

Always pilot a questionnaire; sometimes people missinterpret the questions you pose.

Design the questions as closed as possible for quantitive research add "other" for qualitive.
