Watermelon Tourmaline and Smokey Quartz Brazil Fun Facts, The interesting thing with this specimen is the small crystals protruding from the larger ones giving a cactus look and feel. Tourmaline is mined everywhere in the world including Africa, Afghanistan, Africa, Australia, Brazil, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Nigeria, Pakistan, Siberia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, the USA, and Zimbabwe. The name Tourmaline comes from the Sinhalese (Sri Lanka) word tura mali which translates as the stone of mixed colors

I didn’t know this beautiful combination was possible. So much beauty in one stone. Aquamarine is part of the Beyel family and gets its name from the Latin phrase aqua marinus, meaning "water of the sea". As for tourmaline, it’s name comes from ancient Sinhalese word turmali, that means “a mixed color precious stone”.
