@otemeal: #Dominican #PuertoRican & #Jamaican 🇩🇴🇵🇷🇯🇲 “#mixedgirlproblems : having #mixedparents on mixed parents can be really confusing, especially as a #LatinxCaribbean. There’s a lot of deep history and tension around what it means to identify with a race within the #Caribbean community, a lot of demonizing black features, only accepting your #Taino or #Arawak blood if it means you’ll have less #Black blood, and then the dynamics of race between the islands and USA are consistently shifting, consistently opposing. It becomes really hard to navigate the topic when you look in the mirror and because other people can’t tell what you are, it makes you question yourself. Something I’ve had to learn is although modern society has crutched on race for so long that it’s become an actual thing, in reality the notions we have for race are just random genetic traits that are common amongst the communities of people we have sex with and then we attach all the stereotypes after. I’ve learnt that I am what I choose to be and that is it.” #wcw #mixedgirl https://www.instagram.com/p/B8w8iuylQ7j/?igshid=kke6hh9qz6ju
