#mixels redesign

A little bit last year, I actually started an AU redesign for the Lego Mixels characters... I call it:

MIXELS SUGAR RUSH

Because all of the tribes have been redesigned with some kind of Candy or treat related motif in mind. Let's do Series 1.

The Cinnamonites

Flain, Vulk and Zorch are now themed around Cinnamon, since it can be both sweet and spicy. It was actually the first Sugar Rush tribe I came up with for fun and it basically spiraled from there. The flames have been replaced with nougat colored sticks to resemble cinnamon sticks and a transparent red piece meant to represent Cinnamon dust (no transparent brown options.) I also used cinnamon roll pieces for decoration.

The Krunchsters

Krader, Seismo and Shuff are now themed around crunchy Rock Candy! I mean, it makes sense doesn't it? Their main bodies are all green and teal, but I added some colored crystals for extra variety.

The Sourlectroids

Teslo, Zaptor and Volectro are themed around Sour Candy! Because I remember seeing this ad for a Sonic themed Ice pop where the sour flavor rocks were compared to Electricity if that makes sense... Kinda like how spicy is compared to fire. They retain the lemon yellow, but orange and lime green are also here for a citrus inspired color scheme.

There isn't enough room left to share the Maxes so that might be for a later post lol.

The Nixels are meant to represent licorice in this au, primarily the Black, Red and Green varieties... But it branches out later on.

How about another trip to planet Sweettooth?

AKA

MIXELS SUGAR RUSH

This time, it's the Series 2 characters. Since there's a ten picture limit I'll save the Maxes for a special post.

The Minteecons

Flurr, Slumbo and Lunk have gotten a peppermint styles makeover, since your breath feels cool and fresh when you eat it. Plus... Christmas in the winter time lol. The clear pieces are meant to represent minty fresh breath, and the red Ice pops on Slumbo are a placeholder for the Lego Candy cane piece... Which isn't in Stud.io's builder yet.

The Chew Crew

While usually known for their sharp and dangerous teeth, Gobba, Chomly and Jawg are now Ironically themed around Taffy, so now they're too busy chewing for their teeth to be painful. Their teeth are meant to be a bit dirtier colored now as if they haven't been brushing and I tried using lots of pieces in their Moth's to represent chewed taffy. I also thought purple and blue would make for fun colors.

The Bubblexers

When thinking of a candy that best resembled a tribe about stretchy rubber, Bubblegum was the first to come to mind. While orange is my favorite color, I actually loved reworking these guys so they'd have a cute pink color scheme.

If you had the opportunity to redesign any tribe, what would it be? And what design would you make?

Like I already said I think the best choice for me at least would be to redesign the Nindjas, firstly like I already stated in another ask I’d change their colour palette to primarily white with red and/or pink accents. Next up I’d tweak a few designs just to be a bit more accurate to Japan. For example, did you know that Japan has no native species of cobra? Therefore Cobrax doesn’t make sense as a cobra if we wanna be more accurate to Japanese folklore and stuff, so we’d have to change him to a different kind of snake. Thankfully Japan has a pretty good candidate for a native venomous snake, the Mamushi, or Japanese Pit Viper.

Of course since he’s no longer a cobra the name Cobrax doesn’t really make sense anymore, so I’d just call him “Viprax” or something. Finally I’d add in some sort of reference to the Kitsune, be it making the Max a Kitsune, making Mysto a Kitsune, or doing a set of cousins and making either the cousins Max or one of the cousins a Kitsune. C’mon the Kitsune is an iconic creature from Japanese folklore it’d be a shame if there wasn’t at least one reference to it.

And that’s how I’d fix the Nindjas, as for why I didn’t do the Munchos, I think they’re honestly a lost cause and to properly redesign them you’d basically have to just start completely from scratch and make a new tribe. Though I do welcome you guys to try reimagining the Munchos yourselves if you’d like.
