Miyetti Allah charges NYCN new leadership on unity

The Miyetti Allah Wallidira, a Fulani group has charged the new leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) to unite all arms of youth organisations with the view to achieving its objectives. The group along with Fulani Initiative for Peace and Orientation, and Global Peace Initiative amongst others made the call in separate remarks when they paid a courtesy visit on newly inaugurated leadership of NYCN led by Solomon Adodo. Alhaji Yusuf Musa Ardo, National Chairman, Miyetti Allah Wallidira, Fulani Initiative for Peace and Orientation said the call was necessary to galvanise support for the new leadership and to help it reclaim the lost glory of the NYCN. Ardo expressed confidence in the ability of the new NYCN president to deliver on his mandate having championed the cause of Nigerian youths through his organisation, Empowerment for Unemployed Youth Initiative. “When it is well with the youth, it is well with the entire country as the youth are the fulcrum on which development thrives. “To this end, we are excited that the umbrella youth organisation is today headed by someone who is not only vibrant but has the capacity to mobilise youths for productive ventures as demonstrated over the time,” Ardo said. Director of Global Peace Initiative, Mr Badamasi Sadiq Ibrahim was also quoted as saying that Adodo would reinvigorate the NYCN which had been threatened by crises in the past. “The new President of the Youth Council, Comrade Adodo has the requisite character and competence to provide the leadership that has been missing amongst the youths in this country,” Ibrahim noted.

NYCN President, Solomon Adodo Also speaking, a youth mobiliser, Mr Igwe Martins stressed that the emergence of the new leadership would ensure youths participation in President Buhari’s fight against corruption and insurgency. “Youth activities in the country for many years had been attacked by virus that threatened the foundation of youth existence. “Kidnapping, Insurgence and indeed other vices can only be successfully fought if youths are properly situated in the scheme of things,” Martins said. Responding, the new President of NYCN, Solomon Adodo assured that his focal point would be to harness the potentials of the Nigerian youth towards national development. Farmers, herders crises threaten food sufficiency – AFAN

The National President of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Kabir Ibrahim has described farmer-herder conflict as a threat to food sufficiency in the country. Ibrahim said this at the capacity building for AFAN members and Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) on Friday in Abuja. The workshop organised by the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) was tagged: “Dialogue and negotiations: Why, when and how to be effective”. “Farmer-herder conflict has the potential of disrupting farming activities completely and once we don’t go to the farm, we do not produce food there will be a short fall of food supply and therefore there will be a threat to food sufficiency in Nigeria. “We will not have what we termed to be food security by 2020,” Ibrahim said. The president, who condemned the devastating effect of conflicts frowned at the number of persons that had been killed and property destroyed due to farmer-herder conflict. He specifically made reference to recent incidence in Katsina, adding that no fewer than 50 people had been buried in the past three weeks. According to him, the farmer-herder conflict is limited to encroaching into the territory of our farms or farmlands by pastoralists and that does not result in the use of AK 47. The president, who noted that the two bodies were working together to ensure that peace was restored however emphasised that there were other factors that could contribute to the several killings, banditry and kidnapping that might not necessarily be the farmer-herder. “There may be matches, sticks but this incidence of AK 47 or bigger rifles being used is alien to the herder-farmer conflicts. “But If we can resolve the farmer-herder conflicts l believed other things will also be resolved and we are hopeful there will be peace very soon,” he said. Ibrahim, who described the farmer-herder as partners, noted that the training would avail participants the tools of negotiations. Similarly, Andrew Kwasari, Advisor: Agriculture Interventions Coordinator, Office of the Vice President, identified the presidency as co-convener of the workshop. Kwasari said the workshop was patterned to the three pillars of the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) which comprises conflict resolution, justice and peace and humanitarian relief. He identified the pillars as key that could build around the entire success or failure of the NLTP. “Therefore, we are expecting that having made this decision to train our key stakeholders AFAN and MACBAN is the only way to move forward with the successful implementation that is aligning with the aspirations and desires of the crop and livestock farmers. “What we are out to do is to build their capacity in order to implement that we co-design together with them and also to be sure that these farmers have absolute confidence in the national livestock transformation plan. “This could bring about long term sustainable peaceful coexistence between crop farmers and livestock farmers,” he said. The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), has assured President Muhammadu Buhari that the group is mobilizing to deliver 20 million votes to him as the country marches towards the 2019 general election. The national president of the association, Alhaji Muhammadu Kirowa, made this promises on Thursday, December 28, at the 2018 annual general meeting of MACBAN in Abuja. “We represent over 20 million members across the country, here in attendance we have over 2,000 people who have come from all corners of the country. “We have representatives from each local government, and you heard their views, they have declared their interest in Muhammadu Buhari to move to the next level. "This is a majority decision of the congress. We as leaders, we don’t have option other than to follow. “MACBAN pledges its loyalty and support to President Buhari for his laudable efforts of uniting the country, infrastructural growth of the nation and transforming the economic life of citizens for posterity. “We appreciate government’s programmes of transforming the social lives of Nigerians through empowerments, agricultural development, particularly the livestock sub sector where pilot programmes of developing water and pasture in long neglected grazing reserves has commenced,” he said as reported by Sahara Reporters On his part, the national secretary of the group, Alhaji Baba Uthman Ngelzarma, pleaded with the members to be law abiding, avoid frictions and utterances capable of causing chaos in the country. Akume has given Miyetti Allah reason to attack Benue again - Tiv youths

The Tiv Youth Organization has berated Senator George Akume for his statement concerning the herdsmen attacks in Benue state. Akume, a former governor of the state, had said the Benue government and not armed Fulani herdsmen were responsible for the mass killings in the state. Akume who is also the chairman Senate committee on army, made the comment when he led some Benue indigenes to visit President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Friday, November 23. The group was reacting to Miyetti Allah's stance citing the statement of Akume as confirmation that the people of Benue are the ones killing themselves. In a press statement sent to us by its president, Timothy Hembaor, the Tiv group said Senator Akume has given Miyetti Allah groups a reason to sponsor more attacks on Benue communities. During the presentation of the Amnesty International's report on herders and farmers crises in Nigeria titled "Harvest of Death," the national secretary of Miyetti Allah, Engineer Saleh Alhassan had cited the statement of Akume as confirmation that the people of the state are the ones killing themselves and not Fulani herdsmen. “Senator Akume has told the whole world that it was Governor Ortom that recruited those that are responsible for the killings in the Benue Valley,” Saleh said. Hembaor said: “The Miyetti Allah spokesman made this mockery of a statement in the presence of ambassadors of several European countries and diplomats from other parts of the world. “We are deeply worried by this development because Senator Akume has given Miyetti Allah groups a reason to sponsor more gory attacks on innocent Benue communities. “Now, the terrorists have an alibi to hide under and send their armed militia to spill more blood in Benue state, no thanks to the political and ill-motivated comments of Senator Akume. “We are still shocked that the senator is yet to publicly apologize to the state despite the wide condemnations that followed his shameful statement. “We once again condemn Senator Akume's comments and demand a public apology from him to Benue people. “We have now seen the ugly faces of the traitors among us. Plateau: Miyetti Allah speaks on Ciroma’s comment on retaliation, killings

Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has said it did not endorse statement on the recent killings in Plateau State by the Chairman of the group in the north-central region, Danladi Ciroma. National Secretary of Miyetti Allah, Othman Ngelzarma, told Channels Television that Ciroma’s comments that the killings were in retaliation to the killing of 300 cows was not the position of MACBAN. “The statement made by the zonal chairman should be credited to him,” he said. “That should be his personal opinion because I believe he should be an indigene of Plateau State,” he added. The scribe faulted the comments and condemned the attack which left at least 100 dead and several others displaced. He also commiserated with those who lost their loved ones to the attack, as well as the government and people of Plateau State. Ngelzarma added, “It is so wicked, it is condemnable. We don’t condone it, we do not like it. It is really unfortunate and we sympathise with the communities in that area.” On allegation that some members of the association go about heavily armed, he noted that such persons should be treated as criminals. “Whoever is holding a dangerous weapon up to the level of AK-47, we consider that person to be a criminal as far as we are concerned. “We know these are prohibited arms that should not be held by any other person apart from the security operatives. Apart from that, I don’t think it is allowed for anybody in this country to hold a dangerous weapon as AK-47,” Ngelzarma said. Read the full article
