general opinions: OMG, where do I start? I never really thought much about Iwaizumi until we got Oikawa’s backstory. Also the anime made him the narrator of that backstory and that helped sell him to me. There are so many good moments in his friendship with Oikawa - the pictures of them as children make me weep.
I also have to admit that I never liked Oikawa or Iwaizumi until the backstory and writing for iwaoi week - ooops.
I think he’s tough, strong, fiercely loyal, but also not afraid to put the boot in when necessary. I do wish he’d intervened a little in Junior High, maybe taking on more of a senpai role with Kageyama, but then Kags was more interested in the Setter position and only wanted Oikawa’s help. I think he’s shocked when he sees Kageyama again at the practise match, because not only is he REALLY good, but he’s also so closed off, which was VERY different from the boy who when faced with a tearful and wildly confrontational Oikawa offered him a tissue. (sob). And he’s the only one from Seijou who appears concerned for Kageyama after they lose that match. EDIT: That's in the Anime, not the Manga] His loyalties are always going to be with Oikawa, but sometimes I think he REALLY hates that.
I have three songs that rattle around my head when I think of Iwaizumi and Iwaoi. They’re based on post-graduation, and an AU I have where they’re apart (messy split, I’ll write it one day)
They are Adele - Someone Like You (Oikawa’s POV)Robbie Williams - Karma Killer - (Iwaizumi’s POV - there’s a line ‘Why was I never good enough?)The Stranglers very ANGRY version of Walk on By, because I can imagine Iwaiumi stomping around on the streets, so angry with himself and Oikawa and then breaking down.
