R.I.P Joe Jackson. (1928 - June 27th 2018)
“My father was a managerial genius and my brothers and I, owe our professional success, in no small measure to the forceful way that he pushed us. He trained me as a showman and under his guidance, I couldn’t miss a step.
[…] But I remember once when I was about fours years old, there was a little carnival and he picked me up and put me on a pony. It was a tiny gesture, probably something he forgot five minutes later. But because of that moment, I have this special place in my heart for him. Because that’s how kids are, the little things mean so much to them and for me, that one moment meant everything. I only experienced it that one time but it made me feel really good, about him and the world”. -Michael Jackson
“People always told me be careful of what you do”
- Michael Jackson
“Some say the loving and the devouring are the same thing.”
- Till We Have Faces, C.S. Lewis
Do you know anything more abt Michael Jackson saying once his fans were his legacy? It's trze. But when and where did he say that.
Hi hun, I’m not sure what quote you are referring to because Michael spoke often of his fans in interviews, speeches and even in handwritten notes. This sounds like many different quotes from him, so I’ll just source some quotes off the top of my head that are similar because I’m unsure which one you mean.
"I want you to know that I appreciate my fans (...) every day of my life. It is your presence, your faith and your loyalty that has given me great strength during difficult times, and it was you who inspired me to work hard and deliver, I owe you. Over the years we became a family. You are all my family. It was you who put your heart on the line. It was you who stepped forward to defend someone you love. It was you, on a worldwide basis who supported me as my army, my soldiers of love. You were always there. You are always loyal and I love you forever.”
— this was said at his 45th birthday speech (you can watch this on YouTube)
“One of the best moments is right here (during History Tour in Copenhagen, on his birthday in 1997). Right here. It’s right in the middle of the show and it’s my birthday and I’m thousands of miles away from my family. When they surprised me with the full marching band and then they brought out this huge, beautiful birthday cake.. I realized that I’ve got family all over the world. Everywhere I go, because my fans really show me the love and I love them just as much.”
— this was said during his private home movies that were released in 2003 (you can watch this on YouTube as well)
"My main love for what I do is the admirers. I love the fans. Like when I´m doing a show and see the fans out there dancing and screaming, excited, and we´re bringing joy to them, that´s what I love most. And it´s just the greatest feeling in the world. You´re up there and you´re giving them that energy and that love and they´re just throwing it back at you. And it´s great. And that´s my main love, the stage and making those admirers happy."
— this was from his Ebony interview from 1987 (you can watch the full interview on YouTube)
"And uh, people they just go... They really go crazy. They're very happy to see you. They feel as if they know you. You have to respond back to them like you know them. They feel they personally know you. My picture's on their walls, you know, my music is playing in their house, so they grab you and they hug you and they touch you and they... So I usually respond back with hugs and loves and kisses. Cause I love... I love... I truly love my fans. Truly, truly from the heart. That's the real truth. I love them. And the ones who are, um.... Like when we go to a certain country and they're outside, and outside they're sleeping on the street and I throw them pillows and cover and everything. And I have my security guards buy them pizza so they can all eat, and get the candles and, you know, we really take care of them. They're very, very, very sweet and supportive."
— I believe this was actually from that Bashir interview (someone correct me if I’m wrong)
Either way it’s true that he did feed his fans and give them blankets, pillows and he even let his fans sleep in his hotel room. A fan once even broke into his house at NL ranch, hid in a kitchen closet for 4 days and was caught by Michael when they were sneaking food in the middle of the night. Mike didn’t even have them arrested or anything, he just fed them and then had his security take them home. That was said by one of his security guards but I’m not positive which one.
Anyway, point is, Mike loved his fans. A lot. And it wasn’t none of that bullshit that music artists say nowadays where it’s “oh I love all my fans xoxo” just to keep a fanbase. Mike actually spoke to his fans. He knew lots of them by name and where they were from. His fans followed him all over the world, and he kept up actual communication with many of them. Obviously he couldn’t with all considering he had so many, but the point stands. His security guards spoke of him pointing out fans by name sometimes, and how crazy it was that he knew who these people even were.
Ain’t no one pullin up like this for their favs 😭🤚🏻
And I have to include these gifs because this is one of my favorite fan interactions of his. It’s so fucking cute 😭😭😭😭🥹🥹🥹🥹 this was in France I believe during History Era
Letters he threw to fans (there’s like hundreds of these but just some examples)
And lastly I’m posting this gif of some fan fainting when she was brought on stage w him because I think it’s funny af. She was GONE gone, look how her limbs are just flailing around 😭🤣 me too girl
"I want to touch the world. I want to touch the heart, the emotions of the entire world. From the farmer in Ireland to the lady who scrubs toilets in Harlem. I mean, I want to reach every demographic."
-Michael Jackson
“I recall most of that time as a period of extreme closeness with my brothers. We have always been a very loyal and affectionate group. We clowned around, goofed off a lot together, and played outrageous pranks on each other and the people who worked with us. We never got too rowdy — no TVs sailed out of our hotel windows, but a lot of water was spilled on various heads. We were mostly trying to conquer the boredom we felt from being so long on the road. When you’re bored on tour, you tend to do anything to cheer yourself up. Here we were, cramped up in these hotel rooms, unable to go anywhere because of the mobs of screaming girls outside, and we wanted to have some fun. I wish we could have captured some of the stuff we did on film, especially some of the wild pranks.
We’d all wait until our security manager, Bill Bray, was asleep. Then we’d stage insane fast-walk races in the hallways, pillow fights, tag-team wrestling matches, shaving cream wars, you name it. We were nuts. We’d drop balloons and paper bags full of water off hotel balconies and watch them explode. Then we’d die laughing. We threw stuff at each other and spent hours on the phone making fake calls and ordering immense room service meals that were delivered to the rooms of strangers. Anyone who walked into one of our bedrooms had a ninety percent chance of being drenched by a bucket of water propped over the doors.”
- Michael Jackson, Moonwalk
“If you enter this world knowing you are loved and you leave this world knowing the same, then everything that happens in between can be dealt with.”
