My spicy take is that the MJ Estate's lackluster attempts to promote MJ's music and legacy, the reason why it sucks is because it's made up of a lot of non-creatives. They're looking at the properties it owns, the vault, the Ranch, concert videos ect, and they see profit but they're also deathly afraid of embracing the raw element that made Michael a success in the first place.
Child-like wonder.
In his book "Einstein, Michael Jackson and Me" Howard Bloom laid out exactly what made MJ a visionary in the first place. Yes he was musically gifted, a terrific dancer and wrote music that still has a place in today's landscape, but what really set MJ apart was that he was able to see things as a child does. It's one of the reasons why his brothers never achieved the level of success he did. It's why Janet, despite being forward thinking enough to surround herself with advisors who managed to keep her creative vision secure. It's why Madonna, who despite her almost levelling MJ's success, had to keep up a steady output of releases to keep up (Mads:13, MJ:7).
MJ had a way of looking at the world, and developing his creative output according to how much energy and magic could be extracted from his audience. It's the same kind of buzz you get from going to an amusement park, or eating candy or viewing something exceptional for the very first time. Bottled Nostalgia and Elation. And it took literally everything out of him to do that, it drained him. He never half-assed anything.
The Estate is frightened of embracing this. The only time they've ever come close to achieving that level of Bottled Elation is the MJ Musical and I'd argue that it's the energy and respect the cast has for MJ that makes that a reality.
The REASON why the Estate is frightened of embracing this is because they're terrified of acknowledging the false accusations. They're frightened of even mentioning the word "Child" in the same breath as MJ. They think it'd be impossible to finally put an end to the slander MJ got in his life time. They're more interested in eeking out a profit based on the people who know the truth about his innocence over actually doing MJ's legacy justice (That Biopic is gonna be fucking messy, and I'm not looking forward to it in the slightest).
Child-like wonder does not equal something perverse. Innocence was vital to MJ's entire creative process. To be able to see the world like that was so important to his way of making art.
If they embraced the child-like wonder thing, put someone with more of a creative mindset in charge? MJ's post-humous output would FEEL more like MJ. Do a fucking 2d animated movie you cowards. Release the concert footage in 4k. Stop half assing promotion).
Make my knees shake. Make my heart flutter. Gimme the same wide-eyed wonder that I felt the first time I saw "Earth Song" on Top of the Pops when I was a little Frank.
The ONE thing I'll give the Estate is that they're still fighting those bogus LN-losers in court, and not giving in. I hope those two dipshits never see a goddamn cent from the Estate.
I’ve always fluctuated between being obsessed with and wanting to be just like Mike. Man I HATED the summer of 2009, it was depressing enough and then to top of off, took him away 💔
There’s this documentary that my Grandma (still has!) on VHS and we would watch it EVERYTIME we went over and we’d dance and pretend we were Michael. And my aunts and uncles knew how obsessed we were so they would tell us they were going to bring Michael and Janet to our birthday party. First of all those haters LIED and I’m still salty about that. Never make empty promises to your kids cuz we will remember that shit! I was going to say more about how I love Michael forever but now I’m mad all over again because they lied 😤😤😤
If you Google worlds best smile, MJ is on the list of ppl with the most beautiful smiles 🥹
They can try to remove your crown, they can try to destroy your legacy, they can try to imitate you...but we know who's the real KingOfPop 🤴🏿
I'm posting early because I know I've got a lot of work tomorrow but phew. Considering this was my second attempt, the other being the STTR themed picture, I'm a lot happier with this being my final offering for Mike's birthday.
I referenced a bunch of stuff here, everything from the Scream spaceship, to that spicy Herb Ritts photoshoot, adding those little red, yellow and white buttons from Captain EO...even the number of orbs and the number of stars mean something.
The fish thing...well. If you know you know.
Thank you to the best of the best. You didn't deserve any of the shit that happened to you. Rest Easy King, 13 years since you went home, and your fans miss you every single day. HappyBirthdayKingOfPop

So I started this months ago, with the intention of uploading it on Vindication day...but over time, I realized it wasn't appropriate for that day. After all, the Hologram is problematic. But I loved the Gustav Klimt esque imagery.
So I made a effort to qurik it. Because I'm a traditional artist, this meant many layers of patching with paper and glue. This is a heafty page in my sketchbook.
This is just one of 3 pictures I'm uploading for MJ’s birthday so stay tuned for tomorrow!
I honestly thought he was saying “Friday Spider” and not “Friday’s Brighter” in Sunset Driver for almost a whole decade, and my recovering goth ass was like “Heck yeah, that’s a cool ass lyric Mike! HECK YEAH, FRIDAY SPIDER!”
I wish I’d never looked at the lyrics...fuck it, it’s Friday Spider, you can’t take my blues away that away from me.
