Good morning! Is anyone doing the mjreread still? I'll be catching up and posting questions on Monday. Let's talk everlark today. What's your favorite Everlark moment besides "real"?
I've managed to read ch1-7 yesterday evening :) The thing that struck me the most was the relationship between Katniss and Gale. They trust each other, she's happy she has him back. He feeds her his turnips, which I think is really sweet. And then, at the same time, they fight all the time. About her prep-team, about Coin's threat to Katniss. This fighting, I've noticed before, but now I've noticed as well that he's also really sweet. It's ambiguous.
You're amazing.
They do fight quite a bit. I agree with your observations. I think he wants that position in her life and is caring for her. It's also interesting the words that she associates with him. It's something I hope to write about soon.
Thanks you, friend.
Chapters 4-7
What was one major thing you noticed this time that you hadn't before?
What are your thoughts on the hummingbird conversation between Beetee, Katniss & Gale?
What is the significance of the District Eight encounter to you?
Answer one or more of these in a submission or an Ask. I'll post them tonight. :) I love to hear your thoughts.
In Chapter 1 (rereading through Mockingjay) Katniss bumps into the torture instruments in the square. My first thought when reading that was of Gale and how he was whipped there. Not Katniss. Her first thought was of Peeta. And the images of him being tortured that haunt her, day and night. :'( Just something I never really thought anything of before.
That's a great catch.
I was trying to pay very close attention to that opening scene in D12 since I was so focused on the weight and emotion as opposed to the words and underlying meaning of what Katniss observes and how she relates to it.
She also goes from the bakery straight to the stocks (is that right word?) It's interesting.
mjread Ch 1-3: Something that I missed the first time was how significant it was when Katniss talked about leaving D13. I was too focused on the plot and failed to see the implications. That if she knew Peeta was dead, she'd disappear into the woods alone. Leaving everyone. Including Prim. Even though they were 'safe' from Snow, the Capitol was still in power and a threat. But Katniss, without Peeta, didn't care. I think she actually planned to sneak off like an injured cat and die all alone:-(
Yes! Me too, Eala. I literally want to quote that chunk now because of it. Great observations.
It's interesting that she would be willing to leave everyone because Peeta's gone, but she knows they're safe. Great comparison to her as a cat too. I'm trying to pay particular attention to the Buttercup analogy this round.
Thanks, friend!
Answer one or all. Give me your thoughts:
Chapters 1-3:
What was one detail that stood out to you that you had missed the times you've read it before?
Did you catch a new piece of symbolism that brought you back to Everlark or something you missed before?
What do you think of Katniss's list: Buttercup. Hunting. Peeta's immunity. Announced in public.
Send your answers in an Ask or submission.
I totally failed on the whole discussion questions thing. Tomorrow? I ended up falling asleep, waking up and working on my hubby's podcast stuff. :) How's your night?
I definitely want to do the read through with you guys :)
Do it!!!!
We're going to tag any posts with #mjreread regarding the read through. :)
I'm excited. Now, I need to get to reading!
