The common mistakes the companies are making, especially with Twitter, is either writing the inappropriate slogan or create hashtag that does not represent their company’s identity. As an example, Tesco, regardless how they were accused of selling horsemeat, they had a slogan related to the horse that they were blamed for their ignorant behavior about facing their fault. Also, Victoria Secret has created an inappropriate hashtag implying that their model’s body is perfect, which conveyed the others message of their body seems imperfect.
With such instances showing, it is essential to see if the campaign and the contents are appropriate since social media marketing is open to everyone in anywhere as long as they have internet. Although it might be an American company and trying to do marketing to the American, it still is visible to people who are living in the South Africa too. So, the marketers should put extra attention to see if it is offensive to anyone.
