I'VE LEARNED SOMETHING AMAZING!!!!
So, Irupé? Gorgeous, kind, a nice friend to Luka.
Well, in Guraní mythology, Irupé was the name of a woman who fell in love with the moon, and because of this love she was turned into a giant lily.
The Guaraní people are a culturally-related indigenous group in South America, and speak the Guaraní language. They also have a mythological legend about a HUMMINGBIRD!!! Mainumby "who transports good spirits that are resident in flowers back to Tupá [the chief god] "so he can cherish them"" (Wikipedia).
Maino'li, the name of Irupé's not-kwamii hummingbird friend, could be related to the Mainumby of legend.
The Guranaí also have legends of the Pombero, goblin/elf-like spirits who dwell in the forest, sometimes stealing children, and must be appeased with gifts like honey.
Don't get me started on Kurupi, yall can read about him yourself if you wanna know XD (apparently he's phallic)
I can totally see Miraculous Rio Special drawing from these legends. They say the villain isn't Chrysalis, maybe an evil group of Pombero are out stealing kids and Irupe's job is to rescue them?
I think it's cool they are including representation of indigenous people!!
