Percy Jackson 30 Day Challenge - Day 3: Godly Parent

It's DAY 3 of the 30 Day Challenge, and today's question is: "Who would be your godly parent?" I have to say, I am insanely jealous of Leo. Given the chance, I would definitely be a fire user. I'm no pyro, but really guys, fire manipulation is a really cool power! There's a catch though: wolves are much cooler than satyrs. Yup, I'm a Roman demigod! So, unlike our friend Leo here, I am a Vulcan (even though I've only seen the most recent movie). In fact, this used to be my Facebook profile pic:   - See? I'm a Vulcan! Percy Jackson 30 Day Challenge - Day 2: Least Favorite Book

Okay, so I already kind of talked about this yesterday. I want to make something clear though... all of the books are amazing. Some books are just more amazing than others.

So: DAY 2: Least Favorite Book

Definitely Titan's Curse - like I said yesterday, it seems like such an oddball to me. The whole series is building up to the epic battle in Last Olympian, where Percy is supposedly going to be the awesome hero of the Great Prophecy. The only series that doesn't match this general story arc is Titan's Curse. Because, if you think about it, Titan's Curse is more about Thalia than Percy. It's Thalia's decision of whether or not to kill Bessie. Thalia gets to go on the quest. Thalia is a daughter of Zeus, which is even cooler than a son of Poseidon. Thalia must be the hero of the Great Prophecy! No. Just no. Rick: some advice for you when you write Mark of Athena... don't subtract from the general story arc like you did in Titan's Curse. That doesn't work.

I guess you really do have to give Rick credit, though. I'd imagine it's the hardest to write a compelling 'middle' book (though Rick did amazing with Throne of Fire) compared to any of the other books in a series, and Rick did do a great job writing it. I mean really, this really was a nice addition to the Percabeth saga. My only problem with it was that it took away from the building up of Percy to be the hero.

Percy Jackson 30 Day Challenge - Day 1: Favorite Book

MLIRR is going for the Percy Jackson 30 Day Challenge! 

(I'm going to assume it means Percy Jackson AND Heroes of Olympus)

DAY I: Favorite Percy Jackson Book - 

I love them all, but three really strike me as amazing.

1) The Lightning Thief

This was a very compelling start, and I love that. The bewilderment--Wow! Mr. Brunner's myths are REAL!--added with the combination of mythology and modern day and with Percy's preteen wit--phenomenal. I was hooked ever since I read the words "Look, I didn't want to be a half-blood".

2) The Lost Hero

You know, The Lightning Thief started as a bedtime story for Rick's son. Being a teacher and all, I don't think he really would've chosen to spend his time working out all of the little details--it was probably more improv. That's where The Lost Hero comes in. With The Heroes of Olympus series, you can tell that Rick has put careful thought into his plotlines, so that everything works out masterfully in the end. The third-person was really surprising to me at first, but I actually kind of liked it. It allowed for insight from everyone. Sure, the lead character (Jason) has his problems, but no one thinks about Leo's third-wheel feelings (by the way, I absolutely looked forward to hearing from Leo). Plus, the suspense was killing me. Why does Jason think Roman? As a Latin student, I was pleasantly surprised to learn about Roman demigods, and desperately looked forward to some insight into the Roman camp.

3) The Son of Neptune

Epicly epic. I'm not going to say much more, because I know there are some that still haven't read it yet, but it is even more epic than The Lost Hero was.

Why I didn't really care for the other books (not that I didn't love them): Sea of Monsters and Battle of the Labyrinth just seemed like a way to knock out as many uncovered mythological things as possible, Titan's Curse was an oddball (it was really more about Thalia than Percy if you think about it), and Last Olympian was just a big battle, and the mythology didn't seem as magical as it had in, say, Lightning Thief.

So there you have it. I'm officially a book reviewer.
